What amps are you guys using with your Nano Neo's and NTN's?

Mine sound best with a 1980's Nikko integrated amp I picked up for $20. Synergy.

I have found they do not sound as good on my Musical Fidelity A308. No synergy.

To me they need quite a bit of power to sound good which leads me to believe they would not sound good with some of the inexpensive Lepai amps or say an S-5 Tube amp.

I would think that one of those 2X100 Shure amps or ClassD Audio amps would have enough power but I wounder how they would sound?

Really cool looking NTN's Chris. I like the color.

I find that mine still need a little loosening up time every time I play them. I do not listen to them every day. After about 20-30 minutes the little woofer seems to be able to punch out even more physics defying bass

No problem, you can shoot me an email. As far as the chewbacca sound when tased, seems to be fairly common...we had 2 yesterday! lol

A buddy of mine up here is a part time officer in three small towns. He showed me a vid of his taser training, it was messed up. There is one vid online of a guy who sounds a lot like chewbacca; hilarious!

So, since I just bought a house in the historic district, can I hit you up for guidance on any improvements I make to it? We're closing on it in early May. It doesn't need much of any work to it except for cosmetic stuff like wallpaper. Good thing is that I now have a nice basement to use as a speaker workshop. Very good stuff!

Have you fired them up for a listen yet? What do you think of the sound?

I am intrigued by the automotive finish. I have a few contacts up here who may be able to apply something like that for me. Right now I'm into veneering, though. My first job went well and I enjoyed the process. I want to build a small set of speakers for my oldest daughter and run them off of a T amp so she can listen to her Ipod on them. Maybe a bright auto finish on them would be cool?

    Keep up the good work!
Thank you Eric for the compliment! I have listened to them for just a bit. I love these little guys so far. I have no fill in the enclosure whatsoever, so I intend to mess with that a little over the weekend. On top of working full time as a restoration contractor, I also volunteer as a Reserve Deputy on the Sheriff's Dept. and that takes up quite a bit of my time...(been slacking on that lately building speakers :D ) I didn't have time to listen last night because I was too busy being on the wrong end of a taser for training..I guess I should post the link to that vid! lol
The guy that did these for me threatened to not give them back.. he says its dead up the same as the Harley orange and he's an avid Harley owner/fan and wanted to put these on his bar which is Harley themed as well...

Bare MDF.. he didn't like that they had some "waves" in the finish. He said he would use a higher build primer so that when he went to block sanding, it would be perfectly smooth and finish out like the metal on a car.

Thx Herman! I actually didn't do anything on this finish.. Had my buddy do this in his automotive paint booth.. I believe the color is "traffic orange".. its a PPG product with a clear over it, then polished. He said he got fairly frustrated trying to get a good level surface with the MDF (join the club, right? lol) and HE wasn't happy with the finished product, of which, I was blown away with. He then proceeded to say he knows exactly what to do on the next ones so I should get to building another set so he could show me..(I think I love this guy.. lol). BTW.. NO CHARGE! However, I do refer quite a few jobs to him (including my stuff, like when my wife backed my tahoe into a dumpster) from time to time, so guess it all works out in the end.
    Thanks again,
    Chris

You can pick them up used for dirt cheap (radial arm saw). Cuts well but dangerous and big

My dad had one of those, too! It would be dead accurate for square bu*t-joint cuts, too. ;)

Surface mount both drivers (you probably wouldn't flush mount them even if you had your tools as the the tweeter is a simple press fit and the woofer recess wouldn't be round). The woofer comes with a gasket already attached. Four screws for the woofer and a bit caulk for the tweeter, and you'll be playing tunes as soon as you get the crossovers assembled.
That's what I was thinking, cheap temporary cabs. I was just saying to my wife that I don't have to wait until the speaks come it to begin. It's just a simple box. Also, I plan on doing another crossover on a stick type of thing mounted to the input terminal like I did on my RJ's a few years back. This is going to be ugly though, but I'll be glad to just have tunes with real bass in my room. Thanks for the encouragement!

I was talking with my father last night and he said his old Sears (real old, and I'm 40 and remember it being downstairs as a young kid) radial arm saw was dead accurate for miter bevel cuts,

...so I may try my old cabinet building standby... mitered edges for top/bottom/sides, and a rebate for the front and rear panels. I used to do this all the time when I first started building speakers. It makes glue up a cinch because the inset front and rear panels help to square up the top/bottom and sides. Perfect box every time. He has a small compressor and a brad nailer I can use in lieu of clamps.

I'll use his sheet metal deck el-cheapo table saw to make the rebate for the front/rear panels to sit in. I wouldn't use it for anything percise, but I can eek out a 3/8" x 3/4" notch out of a piece of board without too much trouble.

Actually, I have an idea for a super-cool curved cabinet for these speakers, actually the ntn's, curved cabs are so much work for something so small as the neo nano's, not that their not worth the effort, but if I'm going to bother making something curved, I want to see it a bit bigger if you know what I mean.

I have to check out his equipment though to see if it's accurate for real or just 'close enough'. I may just end up building temp boxes for now depending on how this works out.
Man, I need a house bad, it's been 8 months since we've first signed the contract to purchase the house we've been trying to buy, and over a year that we have been living in my parent's spare bedroom. It's really getting to me. And my cat's not too happy about it either. (projectile furball vometing :eek::eek

    Thanks again for the guidance,

    TomZ
