Since you don't have your tools, you could just build some "temporary" cabinets. You should be able to slap them together before the parts arrive and be ready to go. Surface mount both drivers (you probably wouldn't flush mount them even if you had your tools as the the tweeter is a simple press fit and the woofer recess wouldn't be round). The woofer comes with a gasket already attached. Four screws for the woofer and a bit caulk for the tweeter, and you'll be playing tunes as soon as you get the crossovers assembled.

    Alright, I'm in.

Just ordered all the parts, a few terminal cups and some heat shrink tubing to bring my total to $100 and change. I love free shipping.

Woo hoo! I'll have some tunes within a few weeks Lord willing.

I was going to make myself a set, but after selling my home theater, I realized I could make the statements monitors with the budget I had so that's what I will be doing. It still puts a big smile on my face to listen to the ntns I built though. They just sound so awesome.

    Ill check out that amp.

It's a little amp box using the Sure 2x100 watt amp board. It's using a 30V power supply. I have also used the Sure volume encoder board and I threw a switch/light for both the power supply and the amp itself.

Link to more info is here: http://techtalk.parts-express.com/sh...highlight=tomz

I only have two little RS75's in a cardboard box to test these with for the time being and I really want to see how the amp sounds on some real speaks. These speakers Chris designed seem like they will be exactly what I need, cheap, small, and producing actual bass! The cabinets will be ugly, not what I'm used to producing, but at least they'll produce full range sound. I'm in between houses and don't have access to my arsenal of woodworking tools.

Nice Job on your ntn towers, I like them a lot. I'd build the mtm but I don't have any room at all to play with. My wife even said when I told her the size they were going to be... "That's kind of big". We live in a very small room for the time being, so space is at a premium! Are you going to build a pair for yourself now?

And yes, the price is a bit depressing -- not that they're not worth it, but come on PE, have a sale for crying out loud! (I'd buy a bunch of them if they dropped the price to $20 or under! ;) Really, they ought to make these into a one button click "kit" at least. I wonder how something like this doesn't make it into the project showcase? I'm pretty sure the drivers will be around for a long time since they're pretty recent.

If the wife gives me the okey-dokey, I'll be ordering parts soon. But I have limited access to tools, so they'll look a little rough compared to others' creations.

Thanks for making this public and for all the hard work on it. I can't wait to build them.

    Mikers,

Yeah I wish I had done that on the pair I made myself. I know I picked up that method here off the forums, just couldn't remember who to thank. So much good information here it's hard to keep track of it all!

Namely not cutting all the way through on the ports. I will route out the rest which should make a much nicer port round over. Also used the drill press to cut all the driver holes as opposed to using a jig saw like I did last time. Everything is just that much more precise. Will post up some pics shortly. Still have to glue everything up. So Chris you can move me from thinking about it to doing it!

    Some Pictures,

And lastly my totally makeshift test enclosure for my 2 nd65-4's with dayton dta-1 and music through my phone courtesy of Amazon Cloudplayer. Worked great until my phone battery gave out!

Also forgot my earplugs so I figured something in my ear was better than nothing. Can almost feel the damage occur to my ears when routing the mdf otherwise.

I had 7 audio nuts over to my house last night. As I posted earlier, my living room rig was a very budget minded rig set up featuring the Nano Neo's. The Nano's bass was very strong (tone controls set flat on my little Nikko integrated) and you could feel the bass. Everyone was dumbfounded with their ability to play so low and strongly. The following is an excerpt from another forum that a guy wrote that was at my house last night

"Two rigs going at the same time on two different floors - my attention was truly divided. However, it was the upstairs rig that was intended to allow for easy swapping of gear, and there was plenty to try out. The source for the evening, which was never changed out was Tony's Sony SACD player (model # had a lot of 5's in it). When I arrived, Scott had it hooked to his Nikko integrated, which was punching his DIY Nano Neo speakers - very impressive, considering the amount this little project cost him - I believe he said about $85, which included a few cans of spray paint! I think I caught more than one person walk into this room and casually look around, trying to find the subwoofer that just had to be supplementing these tiny speakers..."

Even after we moved the Nano's over to listen to other speakers, I saw just about everyone go over and pick up the Nano's to get a closer look at this little driver and speaker cabinet design.

    Thanks again Chris.

    Done.

Veneer is flat cut maple finished with danish oil. It's just wiped on with a rag. I like it. If you look at the rear picture, you can see that one has the grain going up down, the other is left right. That is a mistake on my part but no one will see the rear, right?!

Baffle was treated with 50/50 glue water mix, then sanded, primed with rolled on latex kilz for a textured look then sprayed with Krylon flat black (about three coats).

For the port, I ended up rounding over into the veneer (basically going back down to mdf, then masking and painting flat black. You can see where the line isn't perfect but I'm good with it.

Still need to install the terminals. They are just plain jane round push terminals from the closeouts @ PE.

Thanks Chris Roemer for the design. I'm officially hooked and will bust out a new project in the coming months.

X2 on this. The ND105's need a lot of room to breathe and a chamfered rear end will be necessary, not optional. 45 degrees is recommended.
