Any glaring issues with that set of dimensions that I may be overlooking that you can see?

    Thanks in advance,

    That'll work.

Are you going to put the ports on the fronts? Have you given any thought to increasing the width so you can shorten the depth? 14.5 inches is deeper than those shelves you want to put them on, isn't it?

The shelf is 20 1/4 deep. I was thinking that would still allow me to port to the rear of the enclosure. Visually I like the narrow baffle.

Wife picked up a twin size foam mattress pad from Target, that fine french store, for $9.99. I lined the inside of the neos and sealed up the last panel on each cab. Hit the outside with some water putty and it's drying now. I'll hit the baffle roundovers today as well. Then I'll seal the front baffle with a 50/50 glue/water mix, then paint. The rest will be veneered.

It's finally coming to a close!

I decided to add two more coats of paint to mine. I just wasn't happy with the way they looked, and I figured now's the time to do it before installing the drivers, terminals, and xover boards.

It's been really humid here lately and it takes quite a while for paint to dry.

Well...I promised photos of a finished NTN by today ..and here they are..NOT! Buddy got busy on other projects and says he'll have the cabs to me by this weekend (does he not know how impatient I am???)....Well, to not have a lull in the action, I've decided to build the BAMTM...so, that's what I'm working on in the mean-time (cabinet construction, parts aren't here yet)...also, buddy's church had some Peavey PA's from 1980ish hanging on the wall and he volunteered me to strip 'em down and paint them white...has anyone ever seen the quality of construction on their boxes?? Lots of filler..that's all I can say about that. Well.. no promises this time, but I HOPE to have finished photos up this time next week..BTW...Where is everyone else's photos of the NT's and NTN.. let's see 'em!
              Happy Building,
              Chris

I've got my flat black baffles done. Now I have to figure out if it will look stupid with the veneer on the sides. The baffle and sides are all seamless now..once veneer goes on, it will be thicker on the sides by the thickness of the veneer. DOH!

You could just about taper the MDF to the front by that much before the veneer..120 grit sandpaper and feather it out.. noone would ever notice! I've fudged more than that a few times with the good ole orbital sander..Good Luck man! Chris

Last weekend I was able to get the woofers out of the enclosure. Going around the edge of the woofer frame with a razor blade did the trick! I added a small handful of polyfil behind the woofers. Listened for a bit and it seemed to bring out the soundstage and bring a bit more definition to the bass. Then I added a small handful to the bottom of the enclosure, none of it blocking the port in anyway and it seemed to tighten the sound up a little more. This is all very nearfield listening as they are desktops for me. I'm only a few feet away while listening due to available space. I continue to be impressed by these speakers. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but have really enjoyed listening to fml by deadmau5 on these. Can be found on grooveshark.

Haven't read all the pages yet(I plan to), and I was wondering if the tweeter need to be offset from the center if the enclosure/driver alignment will be vertical for the ntn?

No, it does not need to be offset. Changes from NN to NTN: Volume changes to .56, top driver starts 4" down from the center, spacing stays the same, port goes to 2" (around 7" long), XO changes... you can find these XO changes on Chris's profile page. Happy building! Chris

Here's my album for this project by the way. Too many pictures to post individually. Start from the last picture to see my progress.

Chris thanks for a fun little project, they sound really good for such small speakers. Originally built these for the shop but will probably build a center and gift them. I spent too much time cutting the darker inlay and they look to nice for my dirty shop. If the drivers ever go on sale again I will purchase more to build a center and a set for my shop.

I back mounted the woofer using some aluminum bent to hold them tightly in place. The inlay is cut from catalpa (cigar tree) and the remainder is maple ply. I used the eight piece cross over and mounted them a removable back panel.

                            Thanks
                            Tim

TDV. Those look awesome. Very nice woodworking. I love how your crossover looks. I had a tough time getting my 8 piece to fit on the 3 X 4 board that would just fit through the woofer opening.

I look forward to when they go on sale again also.
