    Tdv,

Those are beautiful. Nice work! I can see the sealant on the tweeter assuming you sealed the woofer in as well. I thought I was hearing distortion in the speakers the other day. Turns out I didn't have the woofers screwed down tight enough and the frame was developing a high pitched buzzing. Couple of half turns with a screw driver and problem solved. Hope your mounting is firm

Would using 1" material be fine for this? Would oak work well for this or should I use MDF?

I bought the set with upgraded crossovers and did MTM and will report back when I get it finished! My total build costed me $230 for material and that is not including the enclosure for them.

I back mounted the woofer using some aluminum bent to hold them tightly in place. The inlay is cut from catalpa (cigar tree) and the remainder is maple ply. I used the eight piece cross over and mounted them a removable back panel.

Here's a list of members who I THINK have built one of these ND105-4 designs. If you're not on the list, please add your name.

13 Nano Neos (that I know of - not counting mine):
        kornphlake (2010)
        johnnyravo (2010)
        ---k--- (2010)
        mikejennens
cliffburge - "This is an good design with high value."
lostboy77 (soundbar? - built the Pico Neos though!)
        justinL - black finish
patrickm - tall slim tower version
Drew - "much bigger than they have any right to sound."
MLS - "image very well and would blow somebody away when you tell them that they cost less than $ 75"
Tim - (user - "tdv") front vented, hidden ND105 frame, IMO the best looking Nano Neos yet
        KeviN
        ericJ

        5 on deck:
        DIYNut - XOs done
jmw - PE sent wrong caps
        zomby
        Soundslike
        fastbike - lots of parts

        8 ntn:
        hyperlite (2010)
        cooper (2010)
        django (2010)
        cliffburge - CC (horizontal) version
isaeagle - ". . . they keep asking about the sub. NO SUB ON!"
GregK (out of the blue! - NO warning!) - "They sound very nice."
Xtreme - finished, and they're GONE already!
"I am VERY impressed with the sound . . . incredible to believe that these are only two 4" drivers . . . fills the entire room with very detailed, excellent sound and enough bass presence to not need a sub."

"These sounded better than the RM40T's I bought a while back, and those have a $1150 MSRP. The staging is excellent, and every detail is perfectly reproduced. Nothing short of spectacular. I kept forgetting that my sub was turned off. I ran a few bass tests tones through these and they can definitely play musically down to 32hz. I seriously had to check my receiver's settings 3 times to make sure my powered sub was off."

"The . . . response is very flat with no undesirable peaks, and they sound VERY large . . . fills the room and with such elegance and accuracy that you really have to hear them to believe it. I'd rather scrap my entire Polk Audio Monitor 40 based home theater and use these two instead"

Herman Trivilino - calling a physics classroom home, with visible crossovers

        4 up next:
        cwad - XO's done
        justinL - thinkin about it
        nick
fastbike - gettin' close to starting

        Chris

Chris, would widening the baffle by .5" make a difference?

You certainly can't make them any more narrow as the inner flare for the precision flared port barely fits in there as it is, unless you were to trim it.

Also Chris, you might want to add that these sound so amazing compared to my entire home theater, that I've gone and sold it all.

The guy is coming to pick it all up this week. 4 Polk Monitor 40's, a Polk CS1, a pair of RM40T's, and a Klipsch Sub10. These two NTNs sound better than all of that combined excluding the sub. These are my benchmark for any speakers I build in the future. If these drivers ever go on sale again, I'm seriously building another pair.

I'm currently building a piece of furniture for my youngest son. ntns up after that.

I have parts for a set of ntn's and a set of Nano's. Will build both.

Thinking about some of Lou's comments and may tune the ntn's a little bit higher (F3/F10 ~40/33).

Also thinking about a cabinet similar to this http://www.avalonacoustics.com/image...ct/aspect1.pdf.
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

I didn't recommend these for no reason, lol. These sound 10x more rich, full, and detailed than those speakers I have. They sound larger, and even fill the room more. The only thing my current ones do better is that they get louder, but that's only because they have a higher sensitivity, which is likely due in part to the terrible factory crossovers.

I've got a pair built (Nano Neo with original crossover), they have be listened to briefly (wow!). For the last 5 weeks or so they have been sitting in our basement waiting for 2 more rounds of sanding prior to applying dye and poly.

I will feature my Nano Neo's in a local get together this weekend at my house.

I will have them set up in a secondary rig in my living room. My main rig is in the basement. This will be the first time anyone has heard other than me.

I had them set up in my living room about a week ago and they sounded pretty good in that room. I will spend some dialing them in before everyone comes since my basement rig is all dialed in. I think people will be impressed with them.

I got all the parts for two pairs. One pair is still waiting to be built and the other ended up...er, in the doors of my weekend car. They sound great mounted to 3/4" MDF in a pseudo-infinite baffle door.

The car's a noisy environment but they are fun to listen to on a Sunday morning.

Chris (or anybody else with the answer),
I've finally gotten my PE order straightened out -- when I got around to checking what was delivered to me, I found that I have four DA115s, and no ND105s. (No problem; I've been wanting to build the Duellati, by Mark Miller). Parts Express, with their great customer service, made everything right by sending me the ND105s -- they should arrive today.

                            My question:

Where in this 450 post string can I find the box details? I'll be building the NTNs soon, and based on what I've read, I plan to build a box with a 5-7/8" X 26-1/2" baffle, 10-3/8" in depth (outside dimensions). That produces very close to the .56 CF specified somewhere around post 200 in this string. I need the port details and locations for the drivers and port, and any other suggestions you might have.

                            Thanks in advance....

OT: Chris -- I realized the other day that you're the person who pointed me in the direction I took when I built the sub woofer. I like your sensible orientation to speaker building..., the sub works great and it's a real bargain.

                            Thanks

                              From Post #18:

                              My cabinet choice: 28"h x 6"w x 9.5"d. 0.55 cf
A 2"d x 7" long rear vent centered 10" up from the bottom tunes this box to 39 Hz yielding an F3 of 38. I'd mount the upper woofer's center 4" down from the box top. This puts the tweeter at about 21", so theese should sound best on about 12" high stands.

                                BUT . . .

as long as the volume's the same, YOUR dims should be OK. When I get around to drawing up a box for the "ntn"s, It'll be 24" tall (in keeping with the 24" dimension of a "handi-panel"). SOME people have built just the single woofer Nano Neos as an almost 3 ft tall tower (false bottom used as stand and to house XO).
