Hopefully I will get picks up o my ntn's today. These things are heavy!! All 3/4 construction and 46.5"H. Need to do a bit of sanding and filling. Paint this week is the goal. I did drop the drivers in just to play and I am amazed by what these things can do!! I've had a couple of people take a quick listen and they keep asking about the sub. NO SUB ON!!!

Nice, MLS. The binding posts add a nice touch to those as well as the color. Seems like everyone is finishing these up.

I still need to cut three more top/bottom panels for mine. I had a scrap sheet of 3/4" MDF in the garage that I used. When I went to Menards last week to get another 2x4 sheet, it was out of stock. Didn't want to get the bigger 4x4 sheet. In the meantime, all of the other panels are cut and rabbeted. Driver holes are cut and rounded over on the backside. Rear panels have the port set, flush trimmed and rounded over. Crossovers are done. I really want to try a veneer on the sides, top, bottom and back. The baffle would be flat black if I go that route. Never veneered before but I am ready to give it a shot.

Friday night tunes with some Nano Neo's.

I got mine together in a more finished form tonight and have been enjoying these little speakers quite a bit. I could hear the woofer break in after about 45 minutes of playing they seem to be producing bass that you could not believe comes from a 4" driver. They image very well and would blow somebody away when you tell them that they cost less than $ 75.

I ended up painting them a hammered copper color and I think they look pretty cool, different than my typical black speaker.

I am thinking of doing a sub $100 speaker shoot out in the near future just for the hell of it. I have on hand a pair of the Best Buy Insignia speakers with upgraded crossover parts, the $25 Dayton book shelf, and some BA inwall speakers I made a MDF enclosure for. Should be a fun little shoot out.

My camera stopped working so I do not have any pictures.
(got my camera to barely work)

Thank you to Chris for your design and endless responses to all of our questions.

    From Fastbike:
For Ericj, That's normal. PVC pipe is sized by nominal diameter, same as wood (i.e. nominal dimensions).
It behooves a guy to head to his home improvement store and measure the actual ID of the various choices so that he/you can model more accurately.

Also don't forget to go through the electrical section as well. PVC conduit is available in sizes that you don't find in the piping area (e.g. 2.5", 3.5", etc). The extra 1/2 inch gives you a lot more tuning flexibility.
And now, not to belabor it even further, but here are standard diameters of schedule 40 pipe.
Just plug the inside diameter into WinISD and overwrite the default prompt from the program.

    Greg D.

I see the image file is too small to read.
Here's a PDF of the schedule.

    Hey Johnny,

I'm certainly not saying that the ND's are clean at 10mm. I'm pretty sure that distortion rises fairly rapidly above the 4mm Xmax, but with only 8 square inches of surface area, the long gap does allow the coil quite a bit of excursion with a large transient without the bangin' that goes on with the Classics. IMO, excursion limits are the biggest obstacle for getting "full range" performance out of small woofers. I've used the 5", 6.5", 8" and 10" Classics, and I think that when they exceed Xmax by .1mm, they sound like guns going off.

I model the 105 at 6mm, and try to keep it below 8mm under worst case. At that, it's still got 2mm left. Heck, the 5-1/4"ers Xmax is only 2.5mm. I DO have 4 105's that Zaph could borrow for a few months, if he'd like.

The thing that makes the ND series rediculous for bass output is an Xmax rating of 4mm, and an xLIM (mechanical throw limit) of +/- 10mm!

The 4" woofer in the NanoNeos can output roughly the equivalent of an MtM using the 5-1/4" Dayton "Classics", or a TM using a 6-1/2" woofer (like the BR-1s) in a box almost half the size.

The "ntn" has nearly the output of a 6-1/2" "Classic" MTM, or a 2-way using the 8" Classic woofer, in a box about 1/3rd the size. In all fairness though, that 8" can hit 30 Hz in about 1.7cf, while the ND105's only get a bit below 40 Hz. When pushed to the limit, the ND's act a little more gracefully than the "bangin'" Classics do.

    Got it... thank you!

It's a decent driver but won't have the extension of the ND105.
