I think they look better than mine! What's that color? Did you apply a clear coat?

Thx Herman! I actually didn't do anything on this finish.. Had my buddy do this in his automotive paint booth.. I believe the color is "traffic orange".. its a PPG product with a clear over it, then polished. He said he got fairly frustrated trying to get a good level surface with the MDF (join the club, right? lol) and HE wasn't happy with the finished product, of which, I was blown away with. He then proceeded to say he knows exactly what to do on the next ones so I should get to building another set so he could show me..(I think I love this guy.. lol). BTW.. NO CHARGE! However, I do refer quite a few jobs to him (including my stuff, like when my wife backed my tahoe into a dumpster) from time to time, so guess it all works out in the end.
      Thanks again,
      Chris

That's awesome. Did he say what he didn't like about it? Or what he plans on doing, or having you do, differently next time?

When you gave them to him were they just bare MDF, or did you apply some kind of sealer to them first?

Bare MDF.. he didn't like that they had some "waves" in the finish. He said he would use a higher build primer so that when he went to block sanding, it would be perfectly smooth and finish out like the metal on a car.

Chris, those look very good. Love the orange. Those would fit in here in Fighting Illini country.

Have you fired them up for a listen yet? What do you think of the sound?

I am intrigued by the automotive finish. I have a few contacts up here who may be able to apply something like that for me. Right now I'm into veneering, though. My first job went well and I enjoyed the process. I want to build a small set of speakers for my oldest daughter and run them off of a T amp so she can listen to her Ipod on them. Maybe a bright auto finish on them would be cool?

            Keep up the good work!

Thank you Eric for the compliment! I have listened to them for just a bit. I love these little guys so far. I have no fill in the enclosure whatsoever, so I intend to mess with that a little over the weekend. On top of working full time as a restoration contractor, I also volunteer as a Reserve Deputy on the Sheriff's Dept. and that takes up quite a bit of my time...(been slacking on that lately building speakers :D ) I didn't have time to listen last night because I was too busy being on the wrong end of a taser for training..I guess I should post the link to that vid! lol
The guy that did these for me threatened to not give them back.. he says its dead up the same as the Harley orange and he's an avid Harley owner/fan and wanted to put these on his bar which is Harley themed as well...

A buddy of mine up here is a part time officer in three small towns. He showed me a vid of his taser training, it was messed up. There is one vid online of a guy who sounds a lot like chewbacca; hilarious!

So, since I just bought a house in the historic district, can I hit you up for guidance on any improvements I make to it? We're closing on it in early May. It doesn't need much of any work to it except for cosmetic stuff like wallpaper. Good thing is that I now have a nice basement to use as a speaker workshop. Very good stuff!

No problem, you can shoot me an email. As far as the chewbacca sound when tased, seems to be fairly common...we had 2 yesterday! lol

Really cool looking NTN's Chris. I like the color.

I find that mine still need a little loosening up time every time I play them. I do not listen to them every day. After about 20-30 minutes the little woofer seems to be able to punch out even more physics defying bass

What amps are you guys using with your Nano Neo's and NTN's?

Mine sound best with a 1980's Nikko integrated amp I picked up for $20. Synergy.

I have found they do not sound as good on my Musical Fidelity A308. No synergy.

To me they need quite a bit of power to sound good which leads me to believe they would not sound good with some of the inexpensive Lepai amps or say an S-5 Tube amp.

I would think that one of those 2X100 Shure amps or ClassD Audio amps would have enough power but I wounder how they would sound?

That should be plenty of power to drive the ntn's. I use Sony receivers with about 80 W to 90 W per channel. I'm not the type to crank the volume, though.

I would think that speaker placement and room acoustics would make a much bigger difference than the brand or type of amplifier, provided you've got enough power.

Mine are run on a older Kenwood stereo receiver 100x2. My main receiver, which will be running them eventually is an older Sony 100x5 receiver. I don't listen at high volumes either. Right now mine are in the garage and I'm impressed with the bass, too. It's crazy for a 4" speaker.

I think I am going to move mine out to the detached shop/garage also. I use to keep a play car in it but I sold the car so I now have a shop. I was going to do it today but it is a miserable rainy day. So I may wait for a nicer day to do it.

I have had them out there and they sound really nice in the garage. I currently have a pair of Polk Audio RTA 8TL's a 6.5" MTM design and the Nano Neo's have about the same amount of bass.

I had them hooked up to a Yammy RX-V530..thinking 75W/channel.. seems to be more than plenty. Currently looking on Ebay for another receiver to put in a spare room upstairs to pair with them.... Anyone wanting to sell a receiver that's a couple years old?

I tried one of those Accurian Amps that sold for $15 a couple of years ago and it just did not have enough for the Nano's. I think it is 25 wpc and does not like 4 ohm loads.
