Now building the four surrounds for my system is going to cost an extra $40 just because of bad timing... did the cost of the Neo magnet go up enough to justify a 2.5X increase in the price of the ENTIRE ASSEMBLED DRIVER? I don't think so.

So at full pop for the drivers now, what's this "$55/pair" budget build going to cost now?

Someone mentioned they might go up a few weeks ago. To be on the safe side I bought a bunch of them at their old price to cover a good portion of the flat packs that the CNC company is suppose to be cutting any day now. I think they originally sold for a little under $9.

Regarding the supplied gaskets , they are minimal to say the least -- I personally don't think they can be relied on for flush mounting because they're not thick enough to provide a good seal unless the mating surface is just about perfect. If the driver is to be surface mounted, with the flange mating to a smooth MDF baffle, the gasket should be adequate. But, I rarely end up with a surface that good when I make the necessary rebate for flush mounting the driver frame.

They come with gasket material already glued to the flange. Believe it or not, it's still not quite 2mm thick.

I recessed mine, which are just about finished. It was one heck of a job, as I reported earlier. The CNC company would probably rather not get into it. Seems to me they would have the same problem I did -- the dimensions provided on the data sheet aren't complete enough to allow one to recreate the shape of the driver. I think it looks better, in my humble opinion, but you can be the judge when I get a few photos posted.

Yeh, I'm going to do that myself after I get them from the CNC company. It will keep them from charging extra to have someone do it. I don't mind doing that part for free, it can't take long.

So are you saying not to worry about the recess? If they can nail that odd shape, would it be okay to recess it 2mm? Or should I just tell them not to worry about it at all?

    Is that worth doing?

dunno if it would change the crossover at all, but what would be sweet would be to have a nice clean round hole with a 1/2" roundover on it, and rear mount the woofer....

After measuring the in-box response of the ND105-4 it's my opinion that a 1.5 mm recess would make no audible improvement. I wouldn't worry about it.

A better bet though, would be to model it with WinISD from www.linearteam.org
