    REAL clean power.
The above mentioned amps are actually modelled after a laboratory grade amplifier sold to major corporations like HP and Boeing and to the Bureau of Standards, NIST for calibration purposes. Mr. Wolcott sold several of his instrumentation amplifiers to the Bureau, at government prices!

No one on this forum or on the planet would say that any amplifier with over .1% t.h.d. is clean. No one. Prove me wrong. I'll eat crow if I have to, but show me. I have never seen it, not even close. Find me one within .5%. Just one.

Yes, it is subjective. You have to admit though, that a hot chick with a nice rack will turn your head faster than a flat chested girl.
I've listened to, auditioned a number of tube amps. Tube amps usually are better. (But not always)

This reproduces frequencies only dogs can hear.

I think I just said that I am not the amp builder. Do what you like, I am not the one on the quest to extinguish. :D

I am not the amp guy, don't measure or build them. To me, loudspeaker is the most important part. But I do know guys with masters in electronics and over 20 years experience building amps. They aren't so sure in clear cut case. They say, there are excellent tube designs and solid state as well. And pleas let's not make idiots out of each others. I have been building and measuring speakers for quite a while and not under any fuzzy blanket.

crank up 2nd order and 4th order to anything and tell me how it sounds. Then crank up 1st, 3rd or 5th and tell me. You are under the warm and fuzzy blanket. Look at specs and prove me wrong. Find a tube with under a modest 1% t.h.d. or better 1% I.M.D and put tell me that is ok. Your ears say one thing and your knowledge says another. Not saying you are wrong, your ears belong to you, but specs do not lie as much now as they used to

I don't know about that. Being a solid state guy myself, I heard a SET paired with 100db efficient line array that blew me away. And I mean, it sounded better then top of the line Wilsons or Sonus.

The first time I saw that commercial , besides the coaxial XO, I picked up on the "there's real gas in these tubes" !! I was like what? Ahh....vacuum...no gas...

    John,

"Intolerant fool"? Certainly not! :D Coming from a fan of, for example, the members of Monty Python, one of my joys in life is finding humor "hidden in plain view" within a sentence, statement, paragraph or sketch. Something not immediately apparent or obvious; being played "straight".

Your post also brought to mind a a scene from "Night Court", years ago:

(brief handed to assistant D.A. Dan Fielding from a buxom young understudy in the gallery)

"Regarding underwear-- I'm not wearing any..."

(The look on Dan's face upon reading that is way more priceless than anything on those stoopid VISA commercials!)

My original intent was a little humor with my XO coaxial comment. I guess it can get lost without some emoticons in there, so apologies if I come across as some intolerant fool. My second post was both true and some laughs...I was cracking up typing it! I never get worked up about stuff on TV, even less so with stupid ads. Since my viewing preferences are Science, NatGeo, History/History Int'l and motorcyle racing on Speed, I don't get to see the usual drivel. If I got channels a la carte, I'd choose about 10, so DirecTV wouldn't make much money from me. Music is the norm at my house.

    John A.
