  • 3-way build

i got started on the second floorstander 3-way today. it will have speakers in it by thursday or before. re225-8 x2, silverflute 5.5, north tweeter.
    still tweaking but is close.

one more layer on this side then i will cut some holes and install the port then the other side top and bottom another 3/8 on the baffle and cut more holes. with a little luck it will look alot like the first one.

Nice looking build, that's going to be a pretty speaker for sure.

If you don't mind, what volume are the woofers sitting in and what frequency are they tuned to?

Very beautiful, the sides curve similar to a $20,000 set from Klipsch. Once I convince my wife on some floor standing speakers, I will closely try to duplicate your design. What drivers are you using I"am very interesting in seeing how this project unfolds!

Arlis, someday if you want - you can drag one up here and let me practice my measurement skills on it

            Very beautiful, man.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Basically I do the same thing too. Oops! Sometimes the enclosure keeps getting smaller and smaller. Either that or it's down to the Homer D. Poe for another sheet of MDF.

Amazing. I have the same routers, (big and little) which I use for looks like the same purpose. It sure is easy to trim thin stuff with that little harbor freight hand held trimmer, isn't it? Sure gives a kick when you flip it on, though!

Nice work. I was working on a nice set of curved towers before we suddenly moved - similar setup too. It's tough to not be able to do what you love, if only for a year or so. I'll just live vicariously through you for awhile if that's okay.

i have seen your work tom, and its pretty good. my ryobi routers have served me well. the hf trim router works well for simpler tasks.

I'm not that confident yet, Arlis. Give me another month. I hope to have repeatable data by then. Right now, I still have weird things showing up

this started off as a three driver speaker. upon testing the lows were overwhelmed by the rest so i added another 3/8 mdf moved the woofer up a little and added a second. as it turns out, the little 15x2 t-amp was not up to the task. i now have a sure 100x2 amp to test and tweak with. i listened for about an hour before the mushroom cloud appeared and they sound really good. so i will build the other. i have two used and two new rs225. one of each is intalled in each enclosure. seems to sound the same with the vent open vs rolled up pair of socks tightly stuffed in. lower has wafflecone packing foam and the top will have accustastuff.
25"x11"front tapered to 6" in the back by 12.5 deep. im guessing around 30L
                            2.5x12 rear port. fb 30hz

                            two rs225-8 8" woofers
one silverflute w14rc25-08 5.5" woofer as midrange.
