    Re: Pictures from Dayton 2010

Thanks for the pics! Sounds like it was a great event.

Do the builders of the following speakers wanna chime in, or start a thread to talk about their choices, etc?

    Peerless HDS woofer and ???

    Interesting HE (presumably) speaker

The right way to do a compact speaker: augmented widebander (Peerless '970, I presume) covering most of the music, augments by a midbass (Peerless SDS or SLS?)

    QSC waveguide?

Thanks for the pics! Any chance of identifying who all those grinners with the certificates are?:D

Hmm, I don't see any pictures of the "boom box". I think I can comment about that one. When it was tested it was being over driven and distorting. However, I could tell that it sounded pretty good when not being driven to high levels of distortion.

There was a neat flat dipole speaker where they guy has developed his own patented driver type. I think it's too bad he didn't use some "traditional" drivers with greater excursion to support [supplement] the low end.

I wasn't particularly fond of the test tracks used - I think I've never really liked the music chosen at any of these types of events that I've experienced so far, but, I guess it worked ok for the purpose.

They clearly did a better job of conducting the testing this year as compared to when I went in '08. There was at least an attempt at level matching (somewhat inconsistent, but, certainly a lot better than none).

It'd be nice to do the listening tests without being able to SEE the speakers, then evaluate them on their appearance separately later.
Well, the guy with the ugliest speaker I've ever seen got a prize, so it can't be ALL about looks, now can it?:D

Good stuff, Chris, keep it coming!

    Mark

PS: NO offense intended, I'm sure it sounds wonderful, but the WAF on that thing is WAAAY low....

Thanks for posting all the pics so fast . I wish I had the time to come to the event today. When you get a chance and if you don't mind, give some of your thoughts on the speakers you listened to .? Some of those look great , like they were made at a custom cabinetry shop. I really like the look of those speakers with the dark middle wood and the light outside.
