Re: eD's new offering - DL Series

I'm not an expert on crossover design, but it seems like a very good combination...if designed properly. Assuming you're getting a fairly complicated, well-designed crossover and the performance to go with it, $800 isn't all that unreasonable for a high-end product.

That said, I'm pretty sure you can build a pair of SR71s in prefab Madisound boxes with pre-cut baffles for 2/3 that price - and, honestly, Zaph's designs are as proven as anything could be.

FYI, eD used generic Cerwin Vega crossovers in their first line of HT speakers.

I am sorry, but where did you see this at? Having been involved in development on all HT lines we have done, I can say that none of them used a generic Cerwin Vega crossover design.

I would be very interested in seeing where you saw this online. It is amazing what you see some times. ;)

You're kidding, right? I wouldn't even think of letting a speaker with such wretched polar performance on my balcony, let alone in my living room!

Just look at those midrange "horns" around 2kHz and try not to vomit!

Not quite the same thing as USING a cerwin vega crossover.

You're right Pete, it's been almost 2 years since i read that review.

That said, I've had nothing but great CS from eD.

I have had nothing but great service from Alex and the ED crew. Great buch of guys. Buuuut at $1500 regular prices with a painted finish I would spend an additional $399 and get the Salk Sound Song Tower with the basic veneer. You would get Jim's fantastic cabinets and Dennis Murphy's XO design skills, a very hard to beat combination.

                    Face,

He is not saying that it is a Cerwin Vega crossover, but that the design is fairly simple and straight forward, taking a similar design approach to some older CV products.

Ooops. Just noticed there was a second page and its been addressed.

                      Hey Dennis.

In the package builder, your pricing actually comes down to $1275 shipped.

We are also looking into gloss black options at this time for a very minimal upcharge.

The face being a separate baffle is allowing us to use a solid wood accent panel to whatever species required as well.

The prices don't seem totally ridiculous to me, considering it's a newer company and they aren't shooting out speakers mass-prod style.

However, the probably have a CNC machine, so it begs the question why the tweeter and mid/woofer aren't spaced a quarter to half inch closer together ..
                        I am trolling you.

eD will do custom work as well, to spec. I sent them my dual 8" cabinet design and their quote for this one off was very respectable, and they use that waterproof "MDF" substitute. Definitely CNC!!!

Neat, any chance you could share with us what is "very respectable" or is that top secret info? Just curious, I'm one of the people who does DIY to save money. I enjoy it too but the savings are a big factor. I've considered on my lazier days getting something done for me, but I bet it would throw the value off far enough that I wouldn't be interested.

I can't seem to find the quote. It's buried in my Inbox somewhere. I just remember it being right in line with Nik Brewer, who is also very cost conscious.
