Great thread, great build, love the whole concept. I've been reading a few opinions of the DX25 and they seem to vary wildly from 'giant killer' to 'dull sounding'. Whats your overall opinion Paul?

I can understand how the DX25 could get such a variety of opinions. It can sound excellent or annoying, depending on how the designer tames it. It's not a plug-and-play tweeter. It's got an elusive resonance spike that you don't always notice in sims, but in listening it can sound too "breathy." So you gotta pull out a bag of tricks and beat the resonance spike into submission. Once that's taken care of, I love listening to this tweeter, because its FR is like perfectly suited for studio-recorded music.

Paul, I am going to take a dive and make a pair of these. I was wondering if there is anything you would change if you were to build these again?

Yeah 2nd those thoughts. Looking at building pair of these myself to replace some 20 yr old DCM's. Tempting looking at 12" Peerless for another $20 each. Back in earlier days servicing electronic organs...that was the core of the Rodgers 5.0 speaker.

...but like Paul mentioned earlier...start going down that road and the "budget" perspective disappears rapidly. If not cured it can metastasize...

If you go from a 10" to a 12" the cabinet size would probably need to change as would the cross over. You also need to keep an eye on the efficiency or the whole character of the speaker would change. Best bet is to stick with a proven design especially if you don't have test & measurement equipment. Others have built this design for music and home theater and have been fully satisfied.

Not to dig up this old thread unneccesarily, but I have completed assembly of Tarkus crossovers, but noticed you just updated your Amigas page with the part number update of the DX25. Will the Tarkus crossover require additional attenuation on the tweeter as well? I will eventually measure them when complete, but thought I'd ping this to see your thoughts.

Great question. I haven't formally measured the new tweeter in the Tarkus, however I was able to make pretty accurate simulations of it in place, and I do have a small fix for the tweeter filter that addresses the issue. I have already had a few people try it on theirs, and they said the result worked great. Maybe I can type it up this weekend.

A UMIK-1 is on the Christmas list this year, so I will do measurements of before and after and post my results. I'm only just started gluing up the cabs, so only expecting to have them assembled in a month or so (shop time is limited by a 2 year old and 1 month old!)

Hello all from India,
This is my first post here and took almost 10-12 days to be able to post after registering. I have read the blog by designer and also this thread. Some very nicely done cabinents by members , congratulations.
I am planning to build this speaker too, exactly for the reasons stated in Paul's blog (monkey coffins).
The cabinet plan generally follows the dimensions as per the designer's recommendation. Plus added chamfering behind woofer holes plus a shelf brace and cross members for both woofer and mid cabs.
I plan to make a PCB for mid and tweeter XO and keep it in their cabinet.

I plan to use this speaker generally for normal level listening and mostly listen to pink floyd and Metallica and some classic local movie songs(30-50 years old).
I would like to know if this a good choice as compared to some of the Zaph designs, as it is going to cost almost a fortune to import drivers from P-E.
