  • Another PE shopper....

    ....going into business:

This one http://www.daberaudio.com/index.php/...ravissima.html certainly reminds me of LouC's Cyclops II: http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/cyclops/CYC.htm

More power to the guy if he can make a buck at it. If he is indeed using Lou's design, it would behoove him to slide a few dollars his way.

Otherwise, he needs to hire a graphics designer because that logo is 100% yuck.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Very similiar indeed, different ribbon and no ambience tweeter. Other than that they're spot on. Would be interesting to see the crossover design. Me too on what Johnny said. That logo on a RS sub=fail.

Hrm, interesting. Yeah that design does look like the Cyclops. Well we will have to keep an eye on this guy. Just to see how he does. Good luck I guess, and hopefully the resemblance is just coincidence.

Well, if he is using the Cyclops II he's already got some wildly exaggerated claims on sensitivity (or he redid the crossover with no BSC) considering the M8A is only 86db to start with. Looks like a car guy so he probably cruises in a different circle.

Hey, in this economy, good luck. Copyrights and patents only give you the right to sue -- and make some lawyer richer.

Drop shadows in logos: terrible idea.

I built Lou's Design (minus rear tweeter) a couple years ago and have been enjoying them immensly since. The driver and component cost was $325 to $375 and I used pretty good crossover components. The build thread is here.
I sure hope Lou gets due credit from Daber...
Completed speaker image is below, along with measurements from the 2009 Iowa DIY. Both speakers measured right on top of each other.
Do they sound $1700 good? Probably not.

Mine are now for sale for $1600 ( =

When conversing with him at his home, he stated that these do not look or sound like $1,700 speakers, and that if he were to walk in to CES or RMAF and see a price tag of $4,995 on these, he would not question it.
                  Congratulations, Lou ;)

To me it looks as though the baffle was almost too narrow for the HiVi 8 incher.

Like everything else in life, value is subjective -- like quality.
I always like my last build the best, until I do the next one!:p

I learned a lot from those boxes. The HiVi 8" replaced some OEM Audax's that I ruined. The M8 was the closest fit to the hole size. Turned out better than the original -- in an undersized box, with strange port tuning. Good rock/pop/jazz boxes. Probably my first & last RS52 3way.

I got an email from this guy. Seems decent enough. I don't think he's gonna make a fortune selling that design, but he was upfront on things. Made some changes to the box & crossover. Far as I'm concerned, case closed.

Now if I were really in litigious mood, I'd have the local trauma hospital in my sites. My wife skewered herself on some rebar (straight through her thigh). No permanent damage, but the ER missed a puncture wound on her rear end.

Ouch! sorry to hear that but that sounds like a setup for a good joke. Hope she feels better soon.

Considering the EMT's found it, and I found it, seems hard to believe.
Yes she's doing much better, that steel went though 7 inches of flesh, in and out, without nicking an artery, tendon, or major nerve bundle.

Yeah, in a year or so, I might get by with a "2nd hole" joke, right now I'm glad to see her mobile. She has forsaken any career in construction though!:D

Ouch sounds painful. Just think you could pay for the medical bills if you sued this speaker guy. I kid. But I do want to say first of all that I'm glad your wife is well after getting hurt like that. Secondly thanks for sharing free designs and being cool about it, some people could easily get mad over something like this, offering free designs is almost thankless, financially it is. But you do it for enjoyment, you can just let something like that roll off your back like water and keep going with your hobby.
