      Progress make Mark happy..

Aside from a few snafus with the router, this evening went pretty well. Here's where I landed:

A little TLC with some bondo and sand paper throughout this coming week, and these will be ready for some skin. Still haven't made up my mind on that part. Good times.

A little paint / contrast does the lines good..

        Considering the following veneers:
        Bosse

        Makore

        Sapele (wow)

        Camphor (another wow)

Having a hard time deciding; they're all generally the same price, all of these come in a width that I think I could work with.. the colors are complimentary to the cone color of the B4N....and... I hate this.

Wow. Every time I see a build thread of yours it depresses me. Hell I thought I was big stuff because I did my last cabinets with a hardwood front baffle. Seriously those are great looking cabinets. I put my vote in for the Makore sans stain and a coat of tung oil or something. I think it would "pop" with the black baffle.

I vote Camphor. I think it picks up both the black from the baffle and the color of the woofer cones. ++++

How are you going to veneer? Is the baffle removable?

Yea, the baffles aren't permanently mounted yet. They still need to be textured and a final coat of paint. I'll definitely be veneering prior to gluing the baffle down for good; I can't imagine trying to veneer into a corner. I've got enough gray hair as it is.

I've gotten several votes for the Camphor. I'm gonna have to do that I think.

Yeah, camphor gets my vote as well. Hopefully it's not too hard to work with.

Got the finish coat on the baffles this weekend, and also test fit all of the drivers. The finish I landed on was just 3M undercoat, (IMO) it really does look nice in the end.

I experimented around with Rustoleum's hammered metal for it's texture over the last week or so. I never could find a happy spot, so I sanded it all off and went the 3M route.

All that's left is veneer! These should be up and running in the next two weeks.

                            Almost there...

After much deliberation, I decided to finish these in Sapele just like the gainclone. After all, they'll be sitting on the same desk and truth be told, the prices I was coming up with for veneer were really steep. Three pieces of Sapele 10" x 80" only cost me $26 including shipping. It was kind of hard to argue with vs. the $60 to $70 I was going to have to spend for the other species. Finish is the same as the gainclone as well; three coats of high gloss tung oil. Regardless, I'm pleased. These will be running this weekend. Psyched.

                              Those are beautiful!
Was it hard to get the veneer line up to the black baffle nice and neat? It looks like it might be a little tricky.

I assume he veneered the cabinet and then attached the black baffle afterwards. Either way, they look amazing!!
