  • (New?) GRS line...

I'm getting ideas to re-vamp the Hives with a single row of the 4"ers, http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...gn=email102810 , though their SPL may be a tad lower. Some of their (GRS) larger drivers seem suited for OB projects... Has anyone used any of these?

Rob, I have a pair of the 4" on the way to build a stupid cheap TM. It takes me a while to get stuff together, but I may or may not have something by next weekend. If not, wait until spring or buy one for Zaph because it is too cold here already
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

        GRS=Goldwood Replacement Speakers??
Some of those Goldwood look really nice... kinda like the 60/70/80's ribbed drivers and such. I wouldn't be surprised some sound nice, and an excellent price.

The only (Goldwood) one that has so far been measured by a reputable party is the 8 ohm poly-cone/rubber surround 6.5" woofer. Zaph measured it, and it was not found wanting. I heard it at Iowa DIY and it is a nice sounding woofer.

I don't have very high hopes for these GRS drivers, but at the price can't hardly go wrong building a dirt cheap pair of desktop speakers for my mom.

            Look at this http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=292-410
            Then this http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=290-325.
Similar looking at least, just a thought.

I have used several GW drivers in designs. They are suprisingly good, and I prefer them over the Dayton classic series FWIW.

Cool! I'll be interested in your findings. Please alert me if you post something on them. I also was thinking of doing the "stupid cheap" TM thing with the $2 tweeters I have left over and these 4"ers.

Too bad about your weather. We had a cold spell and it dropped into the 70's the other day. : ) Being desert, though, our nights are dipping into the low 50's. The young and brave wear shorts here until about Christmas most years, but mine usually are relegated to house duty around/just before Thanksgiving. Mark and the guys in Phoenix probably never worry about scraping windshields.

We've already had frost a few times. It doesn't rock for a guy who likes to paint everything he builds.

I have the boxes assembled for the little woofers already. My measurements will reflect that but at least a guy can get an idea of what kind of EQ is needed for a line array that way.

What $2 tweeter are you thinking of using? I am using the $2.60 Goldwood mylar tweeter for my stupid cheap TM speaks.

I think there are only a few driver combinations on PE right now that would result in a cheaper 2-way:eek:

That IS surprising. I liked that Classic 6.5" when I used it.

OT: Sorry, All, for the many reply posts- I'm unsure how to combine replies to several different posts.

I wonder how the 15" would work in an H-frame?

I agree, with anything resembling kick-drum replication, the options are limited. Wonder why no one makes a 4", <$20, 10-20mm Xmax driver... : )

I've got some of these http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=279-237 left over from building the Hives I need to use. Have considered snipping off the phase-correction pieces to see if that would open up their sound a little.
