"Knuckle Head" Speak Build

I started building boxes today from Harley Speaker Build thread. I came to the conclusion that I all I was after was a speaker box that someone would look at and say " that looks like a motor cycle engine". Point being I wanted to simplify the build so I can have it done before Christmas and not spend every free moment working on it.

I found this pic to get some inspiration from. That's were the name came from or maybe the builder or both. anyway here is the start.



I got a few hours today to start cutting up some wood. Looks like I can build these out of all scrap I have.

Front and rear panels will get a large round over and probably bolted on with real bolts counter sunk into the round over. Probably the same for the top covers.





This should be fun!

Dave,

What about the cooling fins? You could depending on what color you’re going to paint them take your router and route V grooves to give them the effect and paint them a different color?

My dad just bought a 2005 Electra-glide Classic, and the dang thing left an oil stain on my driveway. It is a 2005, I thought H-D had addressed that problem?

Dave, those are going to be a very neat build and I look forward to seeing how they progress.

it might also be fun to mount the tweeter in an air cleaner inclosure.

I've only been in this hobby a few years, but this is definitely the first time I've ever seen someone build a speaker cabinet like that! Take lots of pics of this one!

Yeah, I haven't given up on the cooling fins yet so I left the sides flat so I can add them if it works out. Just not sure how I want to do it. I'll get the round overs done first and see from there. I have put a lot of thought into it from plowing out grooves with a stacked dado blade to a router groove to making individual fins to using plastic corrugated pipe as a form for pouring resin in to. It would even be cool just to find some fins to bolt on. What would really be cool is to get Frost's guy to air brush an engine on them. Again I'm trying to keep it simple and fun so I may not do anything. I just want to have them done in time for Christmas.

I do enjoy the creativity of it all. Not sure about the sissy bar but I do need to come up with a port yet. I've been looking at the pipe coming out of the side of the head on the pic I posted and thought that may be a cool way to do it.

You may be able to bend the pvc to the header shape you want with patience and a heat gun

You may be able to bend the pvc to the header shape you want with patience and a heat gun

I have actually experimented with that on another build. I didn't have much luck bending it but I could flare it pretty well.
