Thanks for the compliments. I think I'll try an MTM next, now that I got my feet wet with a mini-monitor.

Finally finished. Used General Finished Arm-r-Seal as the finishing coat. Baffles are finished with Wolf's method of black chalkboard paint with Krylon Crystal Color Slate Black top coat.

Thanks! For my first try, I just wanted to do something inexpensive, in case I crashed. I'll try something a little more challenging the next project.

    First Try at Veneer

Finally took the plunge when Rockler blew out their 24 X 24 PSA veneers for $12.50. By the time I got there, the selection was down to White Birch or Red Oak. Red Oak was the choice. Application was very easy, trimming not so easy. As others have noted, edge seams can be difficult to keep the line from showing. It did not come out too bad, as I got better with each seam. The finish is one coat of Minwax Wood Conditioner and one coat of Minwax Driftwood stain, wiped off after 3 minutes. I have not decided on a semi-gloss/ satin top coat yet - we will be warm enough tomorrow to apply, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
