Perhaps I missed this question earlier in the thread but what gear are you playing these on?

I amp is a HK AVR 340 using the 2nd Zone out. (I run my HT as 5.1). Music is sent from a computer to the avr via an Asus sound card. Music is stored and played via iTunes in lossless apple format. I control iTunes in the 2nd room with my iPhone.

Ok, I'm diving in. I'm putting in an order for everything from parts express today to do these speakers. They will be my first speaker build and I'm excited!

I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

Re: Core 2-Way - Build Tread

Alright besides the bill of materials that MrkCrwly posted at the beginning which includes the drivers and the electronics for the crossovers are there any other things from parts express that people would recommend I put into the order?

You may want to get a 2" vent. I like these because they look good and are easy to adjust.

Or, if you wanna get fancy, the precision port:

Or, you can just use a piece of 2" I.D. PVC.

Did you get some sort of binding posts?

You will need some open-cell foam to line the walls. As discussed in another recent thread, I like the mattress topper from Wal Mart. Maybe a few puffs of polyfil at the bottom of the cabinet as well (optional)
Isn't it about time we started answering rhetorical questions?

Thank you. Please note that my design (that adds the cap and band) is just an attempt to make an aesthetic statement and are not in strict adherence with Pauls design.

I used that vent above and it was perfect for what I wanted.

Mark and Paul thanks for the help. Paul, I have a question for you on crossover parts. I know you're not into expensive capacitors (and I'm glad for that), but do you think the higher grade dayton caps are worth the extra money? It seems like a small expense to get the precision from 5% to 1%, but maybe its a waste of $20.

Pretty much all 5% Daytons I've had have been on-spec, and even on-value. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are scrutinizing and don't have a meter.

True 'dat. Plus, I pretty much design my stuff that it's safe as long as you're within +/- 10% of spec.

Re: Core 2-Way - Build Tread

Alright, so I'm sort of there. I ordered all the electronics, and drivers. Soldered the crossovers and took some scrap plywood and threw together some temporary boxes to house this all while I do up the final cabinets. Paul, they sound great, or mostly so. The first two days even with some thrown together not braced or dampened boxes these sounded fantastic. Now here is where I could use a little help. Today I started to notice a buzzing sound from one of the woofers. I swapped it to the other speaker and same thing. I ran a frequency sweep on both speakers independently and this one woofer is buzzing between 50 and 150hz pretty badly and making some off sounding resonances in the cone. Did I just get a bad driver with a bad voice coil? Or is there something else that I'm missing. Thanks.

I had this similar problem with an RS driver. You can view my thread here and hopefully it'll help you solve yours.
