Why not use some tiny molding, make it look like a screened "window" into the attic?
Lou's Speaker Site [speakers.lonesaguaro.com] "Different" is objective, "better" is subjective. Taste is not a provable fact. Where are you John Galt? I may not be worthy, but I'm ready.

Ahhh! I like that idea. I'm thinking maybe I could find a part at a plumbing supply or maybe even a good hardware store. Sort of like a screen that goes in a sink aerator, the kind that has an integral brass ring along the rim, but of a much larger diameter. About 1.5 inches.
Thanks. Yeah, we were even joking that if I added teh perches, it would be an invitation the birds would find too tempeting!
I had inteneded to put a piece of grill cloth or screen over the inside end of the port tube, but forgot to do it before I glued the backs on! I do need to put some screening of some kind of over them.
You could still put a screen over the ports. Just paint the part of the screen that can be seen over the hole flat black and you won't be able to see it. That's what I did to my subwoofer .It had a 4" port and I had a couple of little kittens that could fit in them. I would use at least a 1/8" mesh, that would keep most bees out. I love your design. Those look great! WE must have the most inventive speaker designers in the country on this forum. I show my wife some of the stuff on this forum so she doesn't think I'm the only (speaker nut) in the world. Her word for our obsession.

That's a good idea. Easy to do, too.
If I ever decide to add the "sub dog house" I can use that idea to keep the critters out. ;)

Thanks. By the way, I can never win that little game with my wife. I pointed out that my speakers are a lot smaller than the ones you see the real "speaker nuts" using, and she reminds me that mine may be smaller, but I have a lot more of them. I'm still coasting on the credit I got for the birdhouses, so for now at least I'll quit while I'm ahead.
I've added a few finishing touches ... some brass drip edge to match the woofers, screening over the ends of the port tubes, and a perch. I hope the birds don't take it seriously and try to get in by pecking holes in the woofer.

Looks great and very clever. Well the brids can't get in, but maybe you could provide them with a feeder nearby where they can party to the tunes
No problems so far. And I don't anticipate any. Our climate is warm and humid. Rarely does the temperature go below freezing.
In this location they're well protected. There's a 16-inch overhang, plus the gutter. If a hurricane heads this way I can take them down and put them away.
