About 10 years ago I used this driver in a two way build. I was in junior college, limited budget, and wanted to try to "build" a bookshelf speaker pair.

My design was based on the "look" of the NHT superzero/superone bookshelf that was in Crutchfield at the time.

I paired this driver with the cheap mylar tweeters that are like $1 each. I put a single cap on the tweeter to keep it from getting blown up and ran the woofer full range. Very rough stuff.

Built the cabinet from 5/8 particleboard. Outside dimensions are 12" high x 7.5" wide x 9.5" deep. A little pillow stuffing and a speaker terminal and I was in business. Finished them in gloss black after sealing, bondo, sanding, etc. I still own them and still use them.

These, albeit crude, sounded as good as any of the commercial stuff I had ever heard and they were quite a bit heavier. After reading through the stuff on this forum, I'm ready to try a proven build.

That being said, I would be interested to see what else could be done with these drivers.

I just might try something like that for some garage speakers, I got a free 2.1 computer speaker system that I'll probably be modding to death. The speakers actually have a tweeter and "woofer" in them, so I'll probably end up buying some Jantzen Wax Coils and Silver Foil capacitors to redo the crappy crossovers that might be in there lol. :D

You'll probably need to buy a driver and test it. As we discussed earlier on this very forum, there's more than meets the eye in determining the excursion capabilities of a woofer, if the magnetic gap is long.

I just might I was looking for woofers/subwoofers with an outer diameter between 6 inches and 6.5 inches, for the subwoofer in the dash. I wan't to basically do a "shootout" of a few different drivers, to see which one(s) will work best in the stock subwoofer enclosure, I'm not really even sure what the specs are on the enclosure, I think I remember reading 0.3cft or so, and it's ported, but there's a thread where a guy mod'd the enclosure to be sealed, too.

You'll probably need to buy a driver and test it. As we discussed earlier on this very forum, there's more than meets the eye in determining the excursion capabilities of a woofer, if the magnetic gap is long.

That driver actually reminds me quite a bit of the old Radio Shack 6.5" DVC subwoofer from the mid 90's. It might make a decent anchor to a budget sealed 3-way though. Do a pair in series/parallel with the Goldwood cone midrange (the one used in the Golden Boys) and one of the little Dayton neo tweets.

i think it's basically the same driver... i think i dug up t/s data on it through an old RS link, and seemed to recall thinking it's almost spec for spec of the goldwood. i think i still have two, though one's a little beat up. anyhow, i had it in basically the same use as the original post... paralleled vc's for a car sub. what i would say based on recent fooling around making cheap subs is that the bravox woofers (even the blue / gray ones) seem like better subs in the same volume, and cost even less. i even had a 12-ohm blue (with the 55hz Fs) in a ~.75 cu ft box with the PE 25w plate amp, and it actually did ok. i think i had it tuned around 40hz. for $34 (got the amp on sale last fall) it's definitely a worthwhile addition for a small 2.1 setup.

i was actually considering it as a replacement subwoofer in my honda element, theres a 6.5" sub with dvc and an amp channel goes to each vc

Aaaaannnnnnddd.... I just realized it has a 2mm xmax, wtf.

That's like having a cup of morning coffee, getting it almost done and looking over and realizing the wife snuck decaf into the pot. Quite the let down.

I am working 12hr shifts here at work, overnight, with nothing going on, becuase it's Christmas break... anyhow, I'm bored, so I was browsing through some mini-subwoofers to pair up with the speakers I'm building my wife and came across the $10 Goldwood DVC sub, and then I saw... a "More Info" tab! A rarity amongst Goldwood drivers! And came up with some CLIO information.

So I plugged the FR and Impedance info into Excel and made a graph to go along with it.

And, to my suprise, really low impedance (due to the VCs wired in parallel, I'm sure) and a 56Hz Fs, versus a claimed 50Hz, and really smooth, flat response straight to 1kHz!
