Clever! But it would seriously complicate the mounting of the baffle on the mill, because of the thickness of the tweeter.

The 4 bolts hold the tweeter together. If you remove them, then you can separate it and mount JUST the faceplate, as I did in my picture. I'd never mount a full tweeter in a baffle and start cutting, as it'd gather all sorts of junk.

Normally I would paint it, but I'll probably just use some PE "black ash" vinyl laminate that I have left over. Because it will be buried in the AV cabinet, and have a grill on it, you'll never really see it.

Here's a step I really should have done BEFORE gluing on the baffle... drilling the holes for the grill magnets with a forstener bit. This was a pain.

I've done this a few times with a spade bit and a hand drill (just prior to veneer), and it's not a problem. The holes don't have to be perfect, because they are filled with epoxy when the magnet is inserted, then sanded flush.

Cool build thread...I always enjoy them.

Does this project mean you aren't making the SR71 3-ways, or are you still planning on doing those later?

Yeah, I think that endeavor has been killed.

There was never a good form solution for them anyways.

I'll use the RS10's for some other project in the future.

Sanded with a palm sander, first 60 grit then 220 grit...








Sealed with a 50/50 mixture of wood glue and water... one coat so far, will do a second coat...

I little tip, maybe for your next build, I was shown by a guy that spent waaaaayyyy too much money building one set of speakers a sub and a center.

Mount the magnets on the backside of the baffle.

tip. when i epoxied my magnets in, they raised overnight. the next time, i put a good pinch of mdf dust on them, placed a baffle-sized piece of mdf on top, and clamped. the next day they sanded up just fine.

I also love those Matrix boards. Here is a trick I use with them. Photocopy the board so you can lay out all your components on the copy and when they all fit just right, trace them out. It will save on messing up the matrix board when you are trying to fit 40 parts onto it...

Thought about this, but I want the magnets to be as strong as possible, so I mounted them on the front.

Overall, I'm really not too concerned about the magnets coming out perfectly... vinyl laminate will cover them, and this thing will have a grill on it for the foreseeable future anyways.

So yes, I've decided to just use vinyl laminate, to save time and money (I already have the laminate, and I'm out of black paint).

The only part of this speaker you'll ever see is the grill, as it will be buried in the AV cabinet.
