Kudos.
Since Zaph hasn't heard it, I'll refrain from calling it an SR71...

But anyways, yes, four SR71's + this center (which really needs a name I guess) would make a stunning home theater, particularly with a sub (I'm using a sealed dayton ref 10).

      We have a name:

      The Blackbird Center Channel

(obviously inspired by the SR71 Blackbird jet)

Seems like the whole thing could be put together with a good sub for about $2250? I've never heard an SR71 but going off of numerous enthusiast reviews makes me believe this plus something like that sub Paul Carmody built for his own HT setup should blow away a 5.1 setup purchased from a store for similar money.

This may finally resolve my quandery.......I'm feeling a Blackbird with two SR71's as its wingmen is in my future.

            And, its a good feeling!

Love the asymmetric look and appreciate the time and effort you put in your build threads.

I see the outside box dimensions, I may have missed it but do you have the driver location/spacing info? Keep us posted on how the tweaking/voicing goes.

Thanks. Once I finish voicing I'll post a final schematic and a dimensioned drawing. Stay tuned...

Re: Build Thread: SR71-inspired Center Channel

Had a few beers, pizza and a good listen today of this setup. Thanks!!! :D

It would be VERY hard to find a retail home that is anywhere near the build cost of this. It was not just good, it was VERY good.

Very smooth WIDE open, and detailed. It was nice to hear a home theater that did not foster the feeling it was meant for a great 5min demo and that is all, but was well balanced, good to the ears (none of that tweeter boost for "better" detail) at just about any volume. For real living room situations vs. man-caves, this really is a good option.

Easily stated: The center by itself was stellar in capturing vocal realism, from any source we played.

My one, constant gripe with the SR 71's has always been a bit of a nasalness/hoot to them that was consistent in a couple of pairs I have heard. It is a real testament to Dan that he carefully looked at his situation, worked with Zaph, used his noodle and ears around BSC, which ultimately resulted in the best set of 71's I have heard.

I am unsure his $200 receiver was doing them much justice, though from what I gather that is going to change.

Paradigm 5.25" POS Series bookshelves, the limited edition Crapola versions I believe.

They'll soon be gutted and turned into New Horizons.

Thanks Mike! Glad you liked it. Great to get your input. Again, I'm still amazed that we didn't change anything. I thought it was there, but needed your experienced second opinion.

                                Thanks for the listening test!

In the above statement, am I correctly reading that Dan's SR71's do not have the nasalness/hoot? If so, what changes were made to get there (i.e reduced BSC, stuffing adjustments, etc)?
