i think he has access to a pro paint booth too.

A pretty humble one, actually. Just a basic compressor and paint gun, and a vacuum wall.

A simple paint gun and compressor is a great investment for anyone who plans on doing a buncha painting. Massively better results than rattle cans.

Is that bit on the milling machine as big as it looks?

I used a 3/4" bit for the holes/recesses and a 15/16" :eek: for facing off the edges of the walls/braces.

Yeah, them's some big ol' bits.

If precision machining was easy, they'd have trouble filling jobs at McDonald's. I said I was just messing with you and I meant it. You do exemplary woodworking, and I envy you the tools you have at your disposal, but the fact is that if you were to turn me loose with those tools mayhem would probably result. So I say, just in case I haven't made it clear, Well Done!

The "nice work" is in actually zero-ing the rotary table to the milling head... a tricky process involving a spring loaded needle gauge thingy.

I also simultaneously made a coaster. My best one ever. It's wicked round, and supports beverages quite well.

Well, I wasn't able to film it (no camera man available), so here are some pix instead.


Here's a pic of a sacrificial piece of mdf placed down on the rotary table. Note the pin in the middle. Strips of double sided tape are laid down, believe it or not this is all that's required to hold the piece down during machining (no really, very common machinist practice)...




Here's I'm ready to cut the woofer recess. Note how the pin is now poking through a pre-drilled hole. This is how I ensure it's centered on the rotary table...




Then after dialing in the correct distance away from center, here I'm cutting the woofer recess...




Now the woofer hole...




Then I had to remove the piece, lay down fresh double-sided tape, and reposition the baffle such that it's center about the tweeter location. Here's the tweeter recess being cut...




And the tweeter hole being cut...




Voila...
