  • Gettin' time to plan InDIYana 2011!!!

    So-
Late April still good for everybody?
Is the concensus to be in the same Hyatt location in Ft. Wayne, IN?

and... 1 day or 2 day, or Friday afternoon/eve and all day Saturday?

I'll be conversing with my co-conspirator (Shawn) soon about these things.

As it stands right now- I believe we have a pair of 1200W mono Mackies on tap from MusicForMatt, and a Mark Levinson Pre with Marantz CD player from Taterworks.

As an additional request, I'd rather we stick with one set of gear for the projects this time, and not be swapping out components to suit the 1 or 2 projects that require it UNLESS it is a fully active setup, or you setup during a break and return the demo gear to initial state upon finishing your demo. If you want to use something else, bring it, but you will probably need whatever you want as a separate entity in its entirety to keep this going smoothly.

Now- do we want a track list, or a free for all?

Who would like to setup a webpage?

    More to come!

That's one vote for when it was last year.

        Wolf:

Dates - either is fine; try and make it work for all.

Location: prefer Richmond (closer + easier) but can make Ft. Wayne work. Have to admit the Ft. Wayne room sounded better

Tracks: free-for-all or submit list and poll.

On the free-for-all thing, I would like to make comment sheets if not a requirement, a courtesy. With free-for-all events, it is tougher to get useful commentary on your design. This is an important part of a DIY and a way to get useful tweaks and adjustments out of a mass of ears! Comments and suggestions we received on Metro's at Frankfort were extremely useful.

Re: Gettin' time to plan InDIYana 2011!!!

You can print some off and bring them along, or use Mr. Undef's 'methods of mayhem' if you like. I like the whole premise as well, and the Iowa 2010 really didn't lend much for feedback, even though the Honorable Carmody's were nice awards.

Personally, you know I'd prefer Ft. Wayne, especially if I'm helping set it up.

As to the track-list on a poll...
the problem with that, is not one person will likely have everything listed polled on, and would involve purchasing a boatload to get that part done. It's more than likely better to let the coordinating duo deliberate on a set of 10 tracks than have everybody's hands in on it and not get a list set in stone that everyone agrees on.
I feel it's kinda like pizza. Not one person really agrees with another on what the best toppings are. Some wouldn't like anything on it, some wouldn't care what was on it and enjoy it anyway, some would make do with what was there but want more, some would want everything, etc....

          Keep the ideas coming!

+1 for Richmond also, but will try to make it up there again. Dates are good, and hope going south we can miss the storms this year.

I guess we'll see how the balance of attendees shifts the 'eye of the storm' at this point. The problem with the Richmond location, is that you don't get those from Michigan, Wisconsin, or even lower Canada thinking it's a viable drive. Sure you get the regulars from KY, IN, IL, and OH no matter what spot of the 2 it resides in, even if the semi-regulars don't make it from further south. If you come from far east or west, the position doesn't really matter that much. Either is accessible for them. We definitely had a higher turnout in Ft Wayne and Auburn than Richmond priors but it wasn't by a landslide.

I'm reading Robert's and Tim's as preferable Richmond, but okay Ft. Wayne. So neither is really objectionable to them.

And of course- Maynard is the exception...

                    Curious:
When have you had these events? How much lead time? How well was it advertised?
I know in the case of Don Keele presentation of his CBT: that others would have attended IF they had known well in advance.
It seems like every time I'm in FW; when I ask what's been going on? -
Th answer is "nothing", then I come to find that things pass under the radar...

Re: Gettin' time to plan InDIYana 2011!!!

Either location works for me. Richmond is preferred just because I'm down HERE...:D It will probably take me all day Friday to get there, what with 2 lumber sources, PE and Fair Radio as mandatory stops...

                        Last weekend in April.

Encourage individuals to provide write-ups, or as much info as possible for documentation. Get approval from the front desk for use of their copier, with cost per sheet known up front.

How can photo documentation be improved? Would someone be willing to capture photos by request?

Would the format allow (end of day?) a shoot-out, side by side comparison?

Could music selections be changed through the day? Say a different play list for small 2-ways from that for large or unlimited?
                        I like the 5/5 idea.

Watch out for an increase in interest. The Fort Wayne room of last year could become too small.

InDIYana has been going for, let's see- this will be the fifth one!
Usually late April to mid May time-frame, but late April has been winning out lately. We usually plan late December, and through January or so.

If you mean DIY Dayton/MWAF, then the first was 2002, with the only year lacking being 2007. All were in October until 2008, and competition started in 2008. It was free-form before that.

Iowa has always been in October. Cedar Rapids initially, Des Moines, and lately Grinnell. Known date usually end of current year.

There is usually a yearly New England and NorCal event, and there were a few DC events from 2002 to about 2006.

Just depends on where you are and what you can attend. Most of the time they are posted here, and on DIYaudio at the minimum.

Do you advertise to the FT's general public? And get sponsorship to offset costs?
Is this the post for details? entry fee etc?

                              Sydney,
This thread is where new developments, the "latest & greatest" will be found. Stay tuned. As details become better established, announcements will be made on other forums. All are welcome! However, advertising to the general public of Ft. Wayne is not likely.

Question: Is there a topic of interest for educational purposes? A invited guest? Last year there was a lot of buzz about PCD, a lot was learned, though nothing formal. Is that topic or another high enough on the list to get something more formal on the schedule?
