    Last weekend in April.

Encourage individuals to provide write-ups, or as much info as possible for documentation. Get approval from the front desk for use of their copier, with cost per sheet known up front.

How can photo documentation be improved? Would someone be willing to capture photos by request?

Would the format allow (end of day?) a shoot-out, side by side comparison?

Could music selections be changed through the day? Say a different play list for small 2-ways from that for large or unlimited?
    I like the 5/5 idea.

Watch out for an increase in interest. The Fort Wayne room of last year could become too small.
The copier I had not thought of! Great idea!!!

Side by sides are harder with less time and lots of speakers, unless you extend the time frame. Being how many typically arrive at InDIYana, unless we go 2-day, it's not likely. Most of the participants like to load up and leave between 3 and 5pm anyway.

I have thought to split them up before into small/large categories, and kinda did in '09. Problem with that is departure times, and such. I would prefer the smaller before lunch, and larger after, but when Jim Salk brings his pairs down, he leaves earlier in the afternoon so it's easier to load up after lunch. And someone who's newer may come late, and not be able to drop his in before lunch.
---We could do quadrants though, and make it a little more accessible. A couple hours a piece before and aft lunch should work. How about that? We would still only need 2 sets of tracks, but we would not hear them all afternoon or morning.

As to the Ft Wayne room- it can be increased! There was a section we were not using at all last year. The hotel conference rooms in Richmond weren't as large.

It looks like most are saying Ft Wayne is doable, and last weekend.

    Keep 'em coming!

Sydney, other than the events at Parts Express, these tend to be informal, details developed as they develop, irregular, hobbyist oriented, existing only due through the energy of organizers, a few weeks to a few months notice, no sponsorship other than passing the hat, communication via the board, and huge fun.

Watch the boards and come enjoy.

Is this the post for details? entry fee etc?
If you mean taking out print ads- not usually. It usually pertains to those who have met on/off the forum, or have seen these threads post up and build numbers and interests. That said- locals are welcome to come, but the room can only be so full. Capacity in what we had last year was 60, but more can be included with the whole open room. We usually have about 30-40 attendants.

As for sponsorship, we have had vendor-sent donated door-prizes to stimulate interest for the companies we support, as well as some anonymous benefactors paying for the room. There have been employees from Meniscus and PE at the InDIYana events, as they are welcome to attend.

As Ed said- this is the snowballer thread! It will grow...Just wait! :D
Usually there is not an entry fee, but there was talk last year of making this a group-funded event this year, and in advance of the shindig. Meaning the money pool would grow early to fund the space. I hadn't mentioned that again yet until now, and that is a viable possibility.

I take it last year's event was held on the last week of April? I might be able to make it, although I'd have nothing to bring most likely.
Is there usually room for a few casual observers in the listening area? My wife is small, she doesn't take up much room. :D

Yes it was. Bring if have, if not fine.
Sure- you would be very welcome to attend, Tom!
Your wife might not have as much fun as us geeks chatting around,
            but she is also welcome.

            Hope to see you!

              Thanks for the invitations!
Sounds like an informal party rather than an "event".
Unfortunately, I will be in the Fort for the Easter weekend before, so...
I do have friends who are into audio ( but rely on DIYers to build for them ) that I thought would benefit from exposure to non-commercial speaker offerings.
These are guys I went to HS w in the Fort. that I help(ed) with their systems. There seems to be even fewer audio outlets ( compared to what I remember ) nowadays.

Suggestion: Get a copier/scanner, and a laptop/pc with Adobe to create PDF. for electronic distribution. Bring flashdrives - Maybe a burner?
I missed Don Keele's CBT demo - But I really appreciate the fact that it had videos documentation and he distributed his "goodies" disk

Re: Gettin' time to plan InDIYana 2011!!!

I'm looking at the 23rd or 30th at this point. Since those are the weekends of interest, I fired off a preliminary letter to the Hyatt sales coordinator to see what they have open.

                Later,
                Wolf

PS- the place on 24 (Audi Video Lifestyles?) is still there, Classic Stereo, and the one in Decatur. Lehman's closed about 6-7 years ago.

                EDIT:
Scratch the 23rd... I doubt anyone would come into a speaker event on Good Friday.

Re: Gettin' time to plan InDIYana 2011!!!

Anytime in April is fine with me if I come. Either Ft. Wayne or Richmond. The Hyatt in Ft. Wayne was great except for their free breakfast offerings, and the demo room was pretty good, too. One day, one day plus evening or two days are all okay with me. I won't have anything new to bring as I'm not very far along with my next project (drawing details still not done and no parts ordered, much less any sawdust made). FWIW, then, I would prefer 5-6 minutes of tracks selected by the hosts, and 5-6 minutes of tracks chosen by each presenter.

Late April still good for everybody?
Is the concensus to be in the same Hyatt location in Ft. Wayne, IN?

and... 1 day or 2 day, or Friday afternoon/eve and all day Saturday?

I'll be conversing with my co-conspirator (Shawn) soon about these things.

As it stands right now- I believe we have a pair of 1200W mono Mackies on tap from MusicForMatt, and a Mark Levinson Pre with Marantz CD player from Taterworks.

As an additional request, I'd rather we stick with one set of gear for the projects this time, and not be swapping out components to suit the 1 or 2 projects that require it UNLESS it is a fully active setup, or you setup during a break and return the demo gear to initial state upon finishing your demo. If you want to use something else, bring it, but you will probably need whatever you want as a separate entity in its entirety to keep this going smoothly.

Now- do we want a track list, or a free for all?

Who would like to setup a webpage?

                  More to come!

Thanks for the feedback, Paul. It looks like everyone pretty much likes the 'Iowa track arrangement', so we might just go with that again this year. Last year really felt kinda 'clustered' in terms of music selections. I didn't have anything to gauge designs with, or against another. I think it will work better, and others still get the chance to play what they want. I even have a few tracks thought about...

The Sonoma's will be ready, and I'll bring the Malbec's too since some not at IA may be curious. If there is room, maybe the Continuum MLTL's - though they are not as nice as either of the other two.

I agree that Easter weekend is a bad choice, even if it's the one that works better for me... Remember that one reason the Ft. Wayne room was better was that we only used 2/3 of it; the closed off back room acted as a bass trap... Fri/Sat format had a lot of advantages.

Not sure what I'd bring... unless we NEED another pair of Continuums.

One thought. Can we have some time for "aural education?" Several folk have set up comparison rigs from time to time; Wolf's cap test comes to mind. Ignoring the rhetoric that accompainied his last demo, I would like a chance to SEE IF I CAN HEAR IT for myself, regardless what "it" might be.

If there is, I do have a demostration project I'd try to complete for educational purposes that I may never do otherwise.

                                HAve fun,
