How about a double-thick baffle for the EWave Deluxe? I'd be interested in a few of these.

Jim,I'm using 24.5 x 17 for the baffle dimensions. Not sure if that's exactly what you need, but an inch one way or the other won't make much of a difference to the price.

1.5" MDF (two 3/4" layers) are $62/pair baffles
1.5" birch ply (two 3/4" layers) are $92/pair baffles

THat includes the rebates for the drivers.

I regularly use SolidWorks 2010 3-D modeling software as a part of my day job., and I can model up speaker cabinet panels and assemblies pretty easily in my off hours.

If I provide you with the SolidWorks files is your CNC machine able to import and cut per those files (assuming cuts are within your machine's specs)? If not do you have a preferred file format?

Dave, I see that you are machining parts that need strong suction. You must have some some really strong pumps.

I use Solid Edge for my design, but I transfer the design to a 2D, DXF format for sheet layout. After you get your design done, just generate your 3-view drawings for each piece and save to a DWG or DXF. My experience with SolidWorks is non-existent, but it should be able to crank out the 3-view no problem. Just make sure the scale is 1:1 (or at least note if it's not) and your dimensions are in inches. The drawings don't need to be totally marked up (dimensions and such). I've been doing CAD way longer than CNC, so I should be able to decipher whatever you throw at me.

There are some limitations on what I can and can't do, but most standard speakers don't present a problem. I can fit a a 4'x8' sheet of material on the machine so any size you have in mind I can probably do. Once I see your design I'll be able to tell you if there are manufacturing issues or not.

I don't have a vacuum hold down system (although it would be nice). I use different material holding methods depending on what I'm cutting, but for sheet goods I just run a couple of drywall screws into the spoilboard. Fast and easy!

OT: I've graduated to "Been around a while", how rewarding!

Anyway, below are a few pictures of same cabinets I cut for Rory (taterworks on the forum). Rory did all the design work and made some very good CAD drawings which made my job a lot easier. It's a a very creative design that makes extensive use dados. The dual slot port is also rather creative. They did take a while to cut, but the dados will make assembly a snap.

Dave, those look fantastic. I can't wait for them to arrive.

The crazy thing is that almost all that dado work is already present on the two prototypes I built with a friend (who is a stage carpenter at nearby Purdue) using conventional tools, but my friend is much more experienced than I, so it didn't seem to take any longer to cut the parts out. We made the complex window braces by using a jigsaw to cut templates, then a flush trim bit to cut the shapes out of the MDF with a router. A lot of the nice things a CNC router can do are also facilitated by a conventional router table.

I don't see CNC as 'cheating'; it does cost some extra money, so it's an example of throwing money at complex manufacturing issues where skill or facilities are lacking (and in my case, I'm only a novice woodworker and I currently have no garage). There are also a few things a 3-axis CNC can't do very well, like chamfered edges. However, having this service available will let designers execute at a far higher level than they would otherwise, such as the extensive dado work on my CNC'ed Firestorms. My eventual goal is to have a couple of kit designs that will be available through Dave's fine service (though I don't think the Firestorms will be among them, because their appeal is limited unless you're a low-power amp guy; these were designed to be happiest when driven by a T-amp.)

Wow! If I tried to do that with my circular saw and router it would take a solid month and an angry wife.
