  • Building Curt's Maverick ... Any 830884?

I have decided to build Curt C's Maverick. Although Curt says 830869 is a suitable substitute, I would love to build it with the original drivers Maverick's were designed with. Does anybody have a pair of Peerless Exclusive 830884 lying on the shelf?

    Thanks all

Awesome. Great to hear someone is building these. I've been interested in these for a while. Looks like a good low-budget yet truly full range speaker.

I'll be watching with interest, please post lots of pix!

It will take some time to build. Right now I am stuck at the 1st hurdle, procuring the drivers. Once procured, a friend will bring those to India. Then the actual build will start.
And yes, I think it is a great design with minimum parts.

I had the same issue as you. I simply placed a saved search on ebay and was able to pick up a nice pair in about 3-4 months. Watch some of the car forums such as Diymobileaudio.com and some of the others as they are popular as door midbasses, and those guys have pretty extreme cases of new gear-itis so you may be able to snag a nice used pair.

Subscribed! Hope you're able to find the drivers, and looking forward to seeing how it goes.

What makes the original drivers more desirable?

                WayneW,

Of course I shall build both the crossovers... to have a speaker that changes itself with flick of a switch is

Plus I think I have some placement/room acoustic issue where I will be able to see the effect of different crossovers. Iowa participants seems to indicate that different listening positions yielded different results for A and B crossovers.

                  James,

Thanks, I shall follow your advise. What is your listening experience of Mavericks?

                    lunchmoney,

Curt have designed the TL box and crossovers with 830884. Although he thinks that substituting 830884 with 830869 requires no crossover change, there must be differences. I am trying to build it as close as possible to curt's design. That is why I am seeking the original drivers.

I would absolutely, 100%, trust Curt when he says there should be no differences worth noting.

The main focus of that design is the midrange unit, and the woofer in either case has the frequency response linearity to pull off its task to compliment that mid.

                        Pete,
I do 100% trust Curt. But there is no harm in trying to procure the original drivers ... it will be a exact copy if I get it. If I don't get the original drivers within a reasonable time I shall build it with the replacement drivers.

Well, the 884 dropped off the scene, no guarantees the other option will be around forever either. Don't wait too long.

                            Yes.

I have a new pair of the 830884 that I would be willing to sell for what was Madisound's regular price when they had them in stock + shipping from 43201.
