just curious as to what speakers out there that can match the sound quality of the better builds we see here .three thousand is just an idea of what it may take to match some of the designs.lets here your thoughts !?
donc
I know a lot of the group's stuff surpasses the Paradigm References at 1500 clams, so how's that? I did a review of them a few months ago after listening to them.

PSB, Pro Ac, Spendor, JM Labs, and Phase Technology all have offers in that range that are VERY hard to compete with. Otherwise Paradigm, B&W, Polk, they are commercial mongers in that range that sound mediocre at best. 3K/pr starts to seperate the boys from the men as far as retail goes, and it is not important which one speaker there is to beat, but to know what a good 3k/pr tower, and a bad 3k/pr tower sounds like.
Definition of corse is in the ear of the beholder. Most speakers in stores get no justice driven by a 1K reciever and a Blu-ray player in a room full of other speakers.
Several years ago (at least 10 but probably not 20), I heard some ProAc 3.3 speakers that were the best I had heard up until then. They were even better than the Wilson Grand Slamms I heard in 1994 that were driven by some Krell amps. Maybe it was the set up of the room but the ProAcs were great.

Stuart Tyler is one of the loudspeaker designers I follow very closely. I have disected several of his designs to learn from. He is an amazingly smart designer, and his speakers show it.

Wilson and B&W are the most over rated "hi-fi" speakers.

Yeah but Mike, you had speakers on NY DIY that are well up and above.
Compete in what respect? After a certain price level customers are mostly paying for the "branding" or design, not so much for a revolutionary new design. Not to say that companies you mention are crap.

I'd put the Thiel cs2.4 up as a contender at that ($3,000) price . . .
I agree.

The first one through the wall always gets the bloodiest...
+1 on the Theils, I own a pair of 2.2s I got used 15 years ago and Theils design and manufacturing is second to none. Right now audioadvisor is running the MartinLogan Purity's for under 2k/pair including delivery and they are awfully sweet systems. And on audiogon a set of Vandersteen 3A signatures is about the same. They are incredibly involving to listen to music with.
When you run make sure you run,
to something not away from, cause lies don't need an aeroplane to chase you anywhere.
Pioneer EX, Revel F32, and whatever martin logan has around that price.
not towers but Id also want to add JBL Pro LSR6328s to that list.
including internet direct I would lean towards Salk 1801-TL, Audiokinesis Rhythm Prism, JTR Triple 12. I think seaton sparks can be had around that price too but again not towers.
