Sadly, this will be the last for a while, as Ed and family go on a vacation. Sad for us, not him!!! ;)

This is ready for an epoxy skim coat.

Hey Pete, finally got a computer back running here. Too bad Ed couldn't get these ready for us before vacation, but I kinda figured they wouldn't be. I'll be ready to get right to work on these as soon as they get here.

So these are going to be fitted with the RS28 and waveguides? What's the plan for the bottom end?

We will try the RS28, but it still has to convince me. It's a nice sounding tweet, just from what I've heard ... not memorable. I'd like something with a bit more snap to it, like the AirCirc but at a better price point.

Plan as of right now is to use a Vifa NE225 on the bottom. A big benefit of using a large deep waveguide is how much load it takes off the botom end of the tweeter, and makes it able to cross easily to a well behaved 8" woofer instead of being limited to a 7". There are a couple other options we're looking at, but most others seem to want much more cab volume.

You and me both brother!!! I'm champing at the bit to get 'em loaded up and finished.

RS28, and most likely, the Vifa NE225W. However, there are a LOT of other woofers that will work in there, and tweeters too. The waveguide will be machined into the 2" thick, removable front baffle.

We've got more options now that we actually know the volume of the enclosure. With 1.25 cubic feet to play with, the local universe of drivers just got a lot larger. The SB Acoustics 8 (sealed) and the Discovery 8 will work. The Wavecor 7" 8 Ohm will work, and even that Peerless HDS 831735.

                  And check this out:
The Scan-speak 22W/8851T is a new addition to the Revelator line. This robust 8" woofer was designed to provide deep and accurate bass in a small enclosure. This woofer features a 2" voice coil on a titanium former, a low loss linear suspension and symmetric drive motor. The deep set hard paper cone is attached to the frame with a minimal reflection rubber surround. The 9mm X-max insures good linear travel.
We suggest a 1.2 cubic foot enclosure with a 2.5"Ø vent by 8" long for and F3 of 38Hz.

After looking at the spec sheet, and seeing a dip at 800Hz, it occurs to me that the baffle diffraction peak will be sitting right there. It's pricey, but it has the most performance potential among the candidates I've seen so far.

That Audio Technology C-Quenze 8 would work perfectly, IF the Qes parameter was increased. By adding 1.5 Ohm in series with the woofer, a cabinet tuning of 40Hz with a 3" port, 8.5" long, you'd get F3 of 45Hz, and only give up 1dB of mid band sensitivity, which you lose to BSC anyway. A low pass using 20ga inductors would put the source resistance right where it needs to be for optimal bass response in that enclosure.

                    Hi Pete,

I have an 8" paper and an 8" aluminum cone Revelator I'd be willing to lend you for testing/measurement to determine viability. Let me know if this is of interest to you. This project greatly intrigues me... been wanting to work on a 2-way design the 8" Revelators for some time. Deciding which one to use (paper or aluminum) is the first step. I presume that for a two-way application, the paper would be the better route to go.

What other thoughts on tweeters do you have? While he RS28 is OK, I think there are far better options available... especially if you're going with a Revelator on the bottom.

EDIT: Btw, great work and design on the cabinets!

                    Regards,
                    Scott

that's a very generous offer Scott, and you might be taken up on it!!! ;)

We've got a whole slew of potential choices in tweeter. The Air Circ 6600, of course, is on the list. The key is one with a fairly extended low end.

What will be the real determining factor is how it sounds in the waveguide.
