You will like those woofers. Very revealing midrange, along with solid bass output. I've got them in a 2way with the SS D260483300. Very happy with them.

Edit: I am using the NE180, I just read that you wanted to go with an 8". Even so, you will not be disappointed.

Yeah, we've got high hopes for the midrange performance of the NE225W. The impedance curve is really smooth, and the inductance extremely low. It has the makings for pretty low IM distortion.

That's it, we can't buy every 8" out there to try. But it was the Le of .16 that I think is the best indicator that it will have exceptional midrange performance. Plenty of 8's have good bass, not very many are transparent through the vocal range.

Just noticed PE has it on Special for $85 now too!

Epoxy exterior gets a rub with sandpaper to prep the surface for veneer.

Check out the edges in this shot from the back quarter . . .

I am not sure if your damping sheet can be considered CLD unless aluminum backer foil is a constrain layer.
                Here's an interesting article. http://www.earsc.com/pdfs/engineering/CLD.pdf
Do you have an access to Praxis with ACH? Would be interesting to look at vibration transfer with and without viscous layer.

Those cabinets should dead and solid. I've used the Dynamat that looks similar to that and it works really well with lowering panel vibration. And I'm glad some else is veneering those because that doesn't look like fun.
Did you ever listen to the Vifa NE 8 inch? And if so what were your thoughts of the midrange?
                  Thanks ,

That's only step one. He's covering that material with another layer of material, and then there will be stuffing between the woofer and the walls. These cabinets should be dead, dead, dead. And with the way the woofer is mounted, vibrations are further reduced. There will be no mounting hardware touching the woofer frame. Only gaskets sandwiching it between the 1" baffle sections.

Nope, haven't had a chance to hear the woofers yet. Hopefully, Ed will be sending the finished cabinets, within a week or so, and then the testing and voicing, with various tweeters, begins. I have high hopes for the quality of mids based on the construction and measured parameters.

Veneering these should be relatively simple actually. All the curved surfaces only bend in one direction, so application of veneer shouldn't be that bad. Trimming around the curves shouldn't be any tougher than cutting a straight panel edge.

                    I can't wait to see what the baffle looks like . . . :D

3" Precision ports installed. Should tune the enclosure to approximatly 37Hz.

The feet Ed will be adding will give plenty of room for the port to breathe.

That's the full length of the tube. We'll be trimming a few inches off that more than likely. 10" is all we need to tune the volume to 37Hz. I think that tube is something like 13".
