How are the baffles going to be attached? Sorry if it's been posted , I'm just curious.

EDIT: Nevermind , just picked up on it , inner baffles epoxied in place , outer baffles bolted to inner baffles.

Risking sounding like a broken record, but the design and execution of this design is outstanding. Bravo to the designer, and the builder. These will have no choice but to sound exceptional.

I'm sure we can. What I've found is the woofers need to be mounted to something solid for the energy to transfer to and dissipate from. Otherwise the energy stays in the driver frame. So that is were I came up with a sub structure to dissipate the energy and it is easier to decouple from the baffle then a driver. I'll send you picks when I take some. I'm also working on some very solid light weight cabinets that I think are going to help dissipate energy. I've done some sample pieces and have one cab almost built.
This is my first design trying to minimize vibration transfer. The woofer is pressed between MDF, and held in place by the heavy rubber on the Vifa. There's a very robust frame on this driver. The back of the "inner baffle" has Cascades' rubber/aluminum sheet plus their sprayed-on coating over that. The cab has the same layering inside, and a rubber gasket goes on the back of the "outer baffle" to seal and help isolate the exterior of the cab from the interior. It may just be wasted time, but I hope we end up with a good thing here. I think all the little benefits added up will make a noticeable difference. I hope we can sit back and listen to these experiments and make the next ones even better.

I'm sure these speakers will sound great. With Pete and Ryan working on them and you building the cabs how could they not sound great. I guess the problem I have with all the isolation experiments is how do you really know what difference it makes. You would almost have to build one without to hear the difference.

On-T: Those cabs are really coming together. I can't wait to see the finished product. Another thing to aspire to.

Then I'll build a set without and we can all hear if there is a difference in Chicago(?) That'll be a fun experiment.;)

Simple enough to do. As stiff as the walls are, there's still always room for improvement, and the rubber with VBX overlay can only damp the walls more than without it. It's almost assured that transmitted sound via the walls is improved over the non lined version. Audibility however, is another question, especially once the stuffing is added to the interior. Doing that greatly reduces the excitation of the interior pressure gradient onto the walls, leaving mechanical transfer from the motor structure to the enclosure walls directly. Not providing a hard, direct coupled mounting of the woofer frame to the enclosure helps in that regard.

At this point Ed, anything more would be like picking dust particles off the Mona Lisa. ;):D

What is the light brown (almost pink in some spots) product that has been applied to the front of the baffle? And is it hard so that it doesn't load up sand paper?

Ed used a bit of bondo during his final passes with sandpaper. He figured it was better to add a bit of extra material, before sanding it back to smooth.

His comment to me was that it set up very quickly, and was a breeze to sand.

Yes, Bondo would explain the pink areas, but what is the glossy coating applied over the entire front? Bondo dry's flat not glossy.
