  • The new Vifa NE series woofers !

Does anyone have any experience with the Vifa-NE woofers ? If so could you express your opinions or experiences ?

They look like very solid performers (and measure well too), but they do have a fairly high cost of admission, so even though they are a decent value for the performance, you need to be serious enough about your project to lay out the cash. Everybody's just looking at everybody else, waiting for someone to make the first move on what look like some well-made, well-designed drivers.

You could be the first. (Well, not exactly the first, but you know...)

I had thought to use the 4" driver for mid-range duty in a 3-way ! I agree with you about cost ! They sure are awesome looking drivers.

The 2" and 2.5" midranges look really cool too. With other brands prices going up, Vifa is starting to look like a better and better value.

We're putting the 8" version into the MiniByzy build by D, Rose. Hopefully, in the next couple weeks, the cabinets will be ready for test and voicing sessions. I've got high hopes for the NE225W. It's inductance is very low, excursion fairly good, which could mean great mid range performance even under demanding bass conditions. Hopefully, the waveguide loaded dome will cross nicely with the Vifa at 1000-1200.

Pete, I had purchased a Usher 8137a woofer, I have been told by some very knowledgeable people it is better suited for 3-way use. Problem is I love 2-ways ! Could a waveguide loaded dome tweeter help if looking to x-over quite low ? If so how ? I am open to any thoughts or ideas you may have ! Also if one were to use a Wave-guide, where can I purchase one ?

So what do you guys think about the similar looking SB Acoustics Satori driver?

Those are beautiful ! Makes one want to construct cabinets from 1" thick plexi or polycarbonate. How much do they cost ?

PE carries a bunch of waveguides that could be modified to fit a dome. the bigger the guide, the lower it will cross.

Here's a plot of the distortion spectrum of the 8137A. It's not really all that bad. Certainly usable, but with some extra 5th harmonic in the mids.

It's a really nice woofer to anchor a 3-way, but certainly seems plausible in a two way with a robust tweeter.

Could you recommend a tweeter if going 2-way with a wave-guide ? Also as to a wave-guide, do you know of any around 6" in diameter and round ?

                      RS28, SB29, DX25.

MCM used to carry a nice 6.5" guide, but I don't know where you can find it anymore.

If you can machine down the back of this one, it might work well.

Thanks Pete ! I kinda like the rounded look, that one just looks to much like it belongs in a band speaker. Although Klipsch seems to like them !
