Well work and the weather have really slowed this project down some but i've managed to get a good portion of the box completed with port construction and bracing. I'll get back to it this weekend and hopefully get to do some listening as well as some pix by monday night. i need to pick up a 45 degree bevel router bit and add the curved/tapered side panels like the Wilson so i'll be working on a jig for that as well. I've been also working on the design stage of the MTM section and have A LOT of ideas/questions for everyone as i just might try and use a pair of 18Sound XD120's for highs instead of a 1" dome.

They sound so clean and unrestrained and a great directivity match for a pair of 6.5" midwoofers it's almost a shame not to use em. Trust me, i'm TRYING to convince myself against it and stick with the 27TDFC's.:D

....oh, and they look so damn good!

I believe that is southern yellow pine. The darker sections are often referred to as "heart pine" and is prized for it's durability in things such as flooring. ;)

Might be Ed. The crates come from Russia for URAL motorcycles so who knows what the hell they are. I just know that the wood is as hard as stone, not easy to cut, and ruins tools. A customer who's a carpenter/woodworker suggested that it was Hickory so i figured he knew what he was talking about.

On a positive note, one bass cabinet is structurally done and ready for some listening. I'll post some pix tommorrow and if all goes well, i'll finish up the second bin and then start some Q and A for the MTM section. Got a few pairs of tweeters to choose from in house as well as a few 5", 6.5" mids.

Sorry but i'd forgotten that i managed to get a pic of one of the bass bins during testing before the Irene flood. This cabinet had a test stain which was back in the garage for stripping and re-staining using 1lb shellac as a sealer and then Gel stain which REALLY turned out nice.

But when the Rahway river crested, sadly this box and it's unfinished sister were lost...along with all of the precut panels for the MTM section. Had they been all BB Plywood i think they would have survived as a stack of pre cut panels for another project did. I'm not sure i'll be working with MDF anymore knowing that the local stream can turn into the Ol' Miss in less than an hour.:eek:

Thanx for all those that were following this thread but i don't think i'll be returning to it but have another modular system on the design table thanx to Erich H and the SEOS development team. Stay Tuned!

BTW...the water wasn't high enough to get the driver. SAVED!



Ohhhh..i forgot. These were 4.5 cuft tuned to 18hz and they simply thundered like Thor's Hammer. Testing with dubstep music from Skrillex dislodged a mirror from an old medicine cabinet in the adjacent bathroom which promplty crashed on the vanity top. That had to be replace too.
