Re: Further voicing....finally posted....
Just wanted to add that the addition of the Crown XLS Drivecore 1500 really make these speakers come alive. I guess the fairly low sensitivity of this design really requires the juice, and this amp provides.
This is easily the best these speakers have sounded yet, and some of the imaging and clarity these are capable of makes these among the best of my projects. I still hear the issues I heard before, but most of them are fairly benign. I'm going to guess that the imaging being as good as it is has got to be partially due to the shape of the cabinet.
Also being how they recently scored at the MWAF 2012, I'm feeling a lot better about this design. It's a costly one, but one I'm glad I built!

Further voicing....finally posted....
This is the way I will be leaving these. FWIW- these are very non-fatiguing, I still hear no HD issues, and I'm still not certain that they can be any better than where they are.
The woofer rolloff is so steep and so low in point that it makes it difficult to mate with many tweeters. Removing the 1 ohm resistors in the woofer (against my better judgement)
are what filled in the midrange best. There is likely still a little trough between the mid and tweeter, but they will never be heard as forward this way.
I came across an article over on DIY audio not too long ago stating that the LR output compensation circuit of most SS amplifiers will allow a typical 'tank' circuit to be used without
any ill effects in the ultrasonic ranges. Should you be concerned, I would still use a 4 ohm resistor in series with the 0.22uF cap to remain safe and have piece of mind. Paul Carmody's
ZX Spectrum and others do not use a resistor in either position, and AFAIK, he's not heard anything back of ill results. So- use what makes you happy.
The sad note is that these midbasses are now $150+ each and only available in North America via Solen. (I checked a former PE catalog, and they used to list for $62 each.)
I apparently developed a rub in one driver recently, and I have a replacement on the way. I hope it gets hear before I leave for MWAF, but if it doesn't I have pending loaner
to utilize for the event. This is apparently not an unusual thing for the 3" VC drivers from HiVi. I know of at least 3 of these that have developed a rub or been misaligned from
the factory, and there was a rubbing unit on sale at the last Tent Sale event. That said- I hope the one shipping is a valid unit.
So- they are not the most detailed. They are not the utmost quality or reference of some of my other builds. BUT- they do satisfy both ears and eyes.

Wolf

That's a serious compliment coming from you, Andy! Being Mr. oddball cab builder you are, I appreciate it.
Hope to have you back soon enough!

oooo look, Wolfy's gone and lost his set square !!!! :p
seriously though.... that speaker is looking good !
Hi guys,
working hard on many other things, and needed a break from the speaker stuff (moved house, no room to put any new stuff anyway.)
Will try to get back here more regularly once I get this Uni stuff finished, hopefully early next year.
Best Wishes to All

Darn! InDIYana (Ft. Wayne) is the next I'm aware of- 'bout late April.
Normally I'd be able to stop in at PE at get the just-released new PE catalog on the way down to CKY-DIY. Since I'm on 1st without vacation at the moment, that won't happen this year and I'll have to wait for the next week. In other words- I'd normally be able to pop-in and see you, but not this year.
See you at InDIYana,
Wolf

Thanks, Tom! I think both Vijon and Trike' have admirable qualities in sound. But not everyone's ears agree on everything.
Yeah- I believe I did on that last point...
Thanks,
Wolf

Nice looking stuff there Wolf! If these are neck & neck with your Vijons, then you have concocted another very nice speaker.
I know the Attitudes are far better

Hope it's useful, the 20 ohm was mainly for level, but the zobel tamed it nicely.

....and one I strive for. Thank you!
I knew you were going to ask me about this weekend and unfortunately I can't make it (again) I don't have anything to bring anyway...I should be getting started on my D5G design soon so hopefully by the time the next relatively local DIY get together comes around we can compare the two. Although the cost of the Neo3's shot up (my cost anyway) so I'm going to use the Usher 9950C instead.
This has been a crazy year!!

Very cool design Wolf, I can safely say I've never seen a cabinet quite like it!
