Why does it look like there's no more harsh cone resonance at 5-6k?
because of the "coupling" effect that was mentioned By Syd or me preaching "summed up" response in the line array, the magnitude drops as the frequency increases. So, it looks like the resonance is not there but in actuality, it is. We will need completely notch out 5k area to make it inaudible.

Alright, I think I'm just going to use your design. I'll use a nice plank of pine. I can get a 14 foot x 8 x .75 for ~$50.
A couple of questions though. Will the crossover need to be changed significantly if I don't use an open back design?
If I do use an open back design, how low do you think these could play linearly?

I will be testing U-frame next. It's not a complete design yet. Sort of work in progress.
But yes, crossover will change quite a bit from open back, H-frame to acoustic suspension.
I think we can get within 4-5db from 110hz and up. Don't forget that FR of an array changes with distance and so linearity is relative. The objective is to have the more or less within the limits at the listening spot. Also, we are not dealing with Seas Excel and hiquphon OW1 level drivers.
BTW, are you sending me your tweeter?

Oh, I entirely forgot about the tweeter. Yeah, I'll have my wife send one out on Monday.
I may do a U-frame if it will increase some of the bass response. I'm not sure if I can cross that high with my sub.
Ha! Yeah let's see a few pics of completed speakers and some graphs..... I would be working on these too if I had even a spare second to myself right now. :D

Indeed. I noticed you were nearby. I haven't noticed too many locals on the few audio forums I frequent, so it is good to find another in the area. I was hoping that DIY Iowa would still happen this year so I could meet other people in NE/IA.
I am more a woodworker than speaker builder yet. I have done a couple subs and minor speaker projects but nothing like yours. I am still trying to learn all the ins and outs of the modeling software and how to operate them. I wish there were more tutorials online so I could learn more. I downloaded PCD, winisd, and lisberians and a couple others but for some reason I always get to a point where I am stumped.
I have been tempted to order the omni mic or measuring equipment but until I can actually learn the crossover design side of it I figured that may be a waste........ I do however, have a full woodworking shop with about every tool one could need..... so if someone local wanted to trade PCD or crossover tutorials for a brand new router kit or something else (hint hint) I would be interested. The only thing left on my shop purchase list is a CNC setup and possibly a multi-router. I hope to find a CNC in the next year or so. I was hoping to find one before the year was out but that might be pushing it a little bit.
I would be up to my neck in speaker builds already, if I could just figure out the design side of things......
I actually purchased a few of these to convert to passive radiators for the smaller-size speaker boxes using 3" - 4" woofers. I think they have a nice looking cone and if the neo magnet could be taken off without major damage, a small amount of mass could be added to the voice coil to increase mass as required. That's my plan, anyway, but I'm curious to see what you guys end up coming up with for these.
i would be happy to demo the omnimic so you can judge if its somthing you might want. if it helps, jeffb (pcd author) recently sold his measuring rig and bought an omnimic.
there are several members that have cnc. a couple have built them theirselves. one will work with a full 4x8 sheet.
im hoping johnny richards will have a get together up in siouxfalls soon.

I appreciate the offer Arlis..... the omni is definitely on my short list of things I will probably buy....but I didn't want to jump the gun. It does speak highly of the omni if Bagby bought one. However, I need to learn a bit about crossover design first...... walk before I run so to speak.
Sioux Falls would be do-able since it isn't too far. I debated about Chicago too but that is a bit of a haul to drive there unless I made a week long trip out of it.
So no new posts with any photos of completed builds yet? I may get mine done before you guys yet!! Although it will probably take me a lot longer to design my crossover...........
