  • Anyone interested in a 10 x 17 baffle with W.G.

I noticed the flat-pack sets for DIY guys, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a standard 10" x 17" baffle that would fit P.E.s cabs, with the W.G. that seems to perform best carved in the top. I might have to charge 75 bucks or more for a set. Is that reasonable?

i would. made from what material? just because the baffle is just 17" tall, does not mean it could not be used on a larger inclosure, right? do you have a sample? could it be alyptical like the one pete was working with?

That's exactly the WG he's talking about. Ed sent me a couple of "test mules" that are at my feet right now. They have that WG I tested with the RS28F. And they are exact matches for the PE .75cf cabinets.

Ed made them from MDF, but a really good grade of MDF used for stair treads.

Would they have any sort of finish applied to them?

I'd want just the waveguide part - either squares, or, two on a rectangle and I can cut it and put it in a baffle.

At least, something that would fit in a USPS Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box.

Maybe somebody can come up with a better price too?

If the back is cut just right to fit the tweeter that adds value, of course...

The beauty of the baffle with the waveguide, is that's it's a baffle with a waveguide carved into it. One piece, no seams, far nicer look than any type of bolt-on would give. Ed's cutting it into baffles, to go along with the flat pack theme, to use with existing PE cabinets, and that takes a good deal of time to make. $75/pr seems pretty decent to me, especially when a flat, uncut baffle for that same cabinet costs $38/pr from PE.

I think some of the guys are trying to get that profile produced in fiberglass as a bolt on which would seem to be more what you're looking for.

With the quality of work that he has done for you as an idea of how well done these will be, $75/pr seems reasonable to me.

So are there any designs worked out for this or will it be more of a project for the ones that design?

Seems fair. Would be nice to also see it available for the 1ft^3 cab.

would you be willing to cnc for another driver before shipping?

That sounds pretty delicious, but I'd have to dig through the couch for the $75. ;)

Hey Arlis. I would use Plum Creek MDF for the baffles, 1" thick. Its a better quality MDF than what I was using from the Depot or Lowes. When you put a router to it it actually puts off a good fruity smell! No kidding! But this stuff is harder and keeps a sharp edge when its routed or milled. Exceptional stuff. I also have some RS28s laying around, so I could put the anchor holes in the back of the W.G. if that's the T you want to use.

I was planning on putting out at least one design using that baffle. The first use for the test mules I have is to go with the 8948A and a yet to be determined tweeter (something different than the RS28F).

As for other baffles, the PE 1cf MTM cabinet is a possibility too. Baffle is just wide enough to fit the WG on.
