    Homemade Inductors?

    What are those ferrite core wraps on the Dayton DTA 2 speaker wires for?

    Can I wrap a few twists of 24 gauge copper and make a low-pass inductor for a woofer? Does it matter if the bare wires are touching each other as the wraps go round? Nothing Hi-Fi. Just need to tame some mids from the woofer.

    Yes the wire must be insulated - usually with a varnish.
    Inductor coils can be made according to formulas that involve wire size, turns, spacing and configuration of the coil and the material ( if any ) used for a core.
    You need a few tools and the ability to measure value to do it right with a high consistence degree of success.

      How can you measure the coil, without an inductance meter?

        Yup, there are other ways besides a dedicated inductance meter.
