    Imperial Russian Stout model Fountek vifa 3 way

    Here's a sim I'm working on for Fastbike using 2 FW168 woofers, FW146 mid, and the Vifa DX25 as the tweeter. I think he'll be giving this a try instead of building the triplebocks. The woofers are modeled in 39 liters tuned to 45 hz. The mid is modeled as 5 liters sealed. The baffle is 8" wide by 39" tall.

    I have a nice piece of walnut for the baffles. Has both sapwood and heartwood so Jay will be able to get the "foaming head" effect he wanted with the Triple Bocks. :D

      Between 600 and 1K has quite a dip. If you were going for a BBC it is usually between 2K and 5-6K. May make the mids a little lean, even shouty around 5K.

      I would reduce the padding on the mid, soften the knee on the transfer function at the top (Bessel it looks like?) to keep it coherent with the the tweeter.

      I never worked with these drivers you what you did may be purposeful. If so carry on!

        I'll take a look at it tonight but the tweeter from 4.5 to 10kish was 87 DB the 2-3k plateau was 86 db and the low point was 84.5db and was the same low point that I ran into in the center channel model. On the woofer side I was trying to smooth it out as much as I could since I didn't like the shoutiness the ruinations had before I smoothed that 600 to 1K region out. I did try having a .10 inductor rather than .13 inductor but then power response wasn't as nice for the tweeter mid handoff.

                The walnut baffle will be great. I also have some Walnut veneer, but may go with a lighter veneer on the sides for some added contrast. Currently have Anigre, German Beech birdseye, and European Ash in the shop.

                I'm hoping to start a build thread by Monday 11/21/11. Won't be cutting driver holes until the drivers actually show up (made that mistake once), but hope to have cab design finalized tomorrow.

                  Looking forward to this! You know Ram Jr and Paul Carmody are building a CC based on those Founteks, and maybe that same tweeter also. I'm hoping to build that soon, and then either the Ruinations or these new "Imperials" for mains.

                    I'm looking forward to seeing and finding out how they turnout. I'm afraid I'll have some speaker envy for a bit even though I'm really happy with my current setup.

                        I have currently three choices of hardwood for the baffles. From left to right, Andiroba, Walnut, and Mahogany.

                        What say you?
