  • Best new midwoofer?

I have been working with some new drivers so I thought I would post a few pics and comments.

This is the best midwoofer I have seen for quite some time. It's the new SB Acoustics Satori MW16P. Mine cam efrom Meniscus (you can download the spec sheet on it there, my sample meaured right on spec). It has a Kapoc Papyrus cone, very advanced motor design and Neo magnet. Measurements on it are exceptional for a small speaker. It measured a 29Hz Fs right out of the box and Le was nearly non-existent, measuring only 0.12mH, with the flattest impedance curve I have ever seen in a midwoofer. And speaking of flat - the frequency response was extended to 15khz with no nasty peaking usually associated with hard cones. Very impressive driver. Here's a few pics:

    Jeff,

How does the dip at 1.2K look like in your measurement? Do you have FR and Harmonic distortion charts?

It looks good. Just too expensive....

That's a shot across the bow of the Revelator. Maybe cost is no object with that sort of woofer, but still, I think it could be much more affordable if it used a ferrite magnet. Also, it's got that stigma of "made in China."
Isn't it about time we started answering rhetorical questions?

        I can't find them anywhere.

        How expensive are they?

Meniscus has them listed at $187 and Madisound at $287. I"m guessing the Madisound price is correct?

                Ok, thank you.

If the Madisound price is correct, better hurry up and get 'em from Meniscus before they catch the error.

$187 is still pretty expensive for that size driver.

The Cat # for the one at Madisound is an MW16P-B, so maybe they are different. Or maybe the B just stands for Big mark up. :D:o

Very impressive data sheet. How about some distortion plots? Lets see if it really brings the goods.

Except it's not made in China. It's made in Indonesia, if that's any difference. It is designed by the former Scanspeak engineers that designed the Revelator series.... if that makes any difference.

If I get a chance tomorrow I will try to get those measured.

That's wonderful. Just curious, when you mount a "generic" woofer for testing, what kind of baffle would you use? A big wide / infinite baffle?

So what tweeter would you pair this up with? Something like a RAAL? Too rich for my blood, but definitely drool worthy.

Edit: just saw your other post, that N26 is schweeet!

Is that going to be paired up with the SB 26 or the Transducer Labs N26?
