I'm trying to achieve your theme of foam running down the mug. :D

I'm going to do some finish tests since I'm thinking of painting the plywood parts of the cabs instead of using walnut veneer. I'm a little concerned that everything in walnut grain will reduce the impact of the baffle.

I'll be using Waterlox for the baffles and they should end up looking great.

I'm digging the sap wood in the baffles and the contrast of the drivers against the wood color nice choice for the baffle pieces.

Progress continues. Driver openings in the baffle have been hand fit. Window braces have been smoothed. Expect to layout biscuit cuts today.

Didn't get as much time as hoped last week. Annoying when life gets in the way. However, the build continues. Pics to come when there's more to see.

That process mystified me a bit.
I made complete trial cuts in plywood to see if I needed some adjustment. The plywood trials fit great, but the walnut needed a bit of additional sanding.

Anyway final cuts are FW168 7 1/16 , 5 25/32. FW 146 5 3/4, 4 5/8. This is all within measurement error. The initial cuts were very close, but just not quite enough.

Would ultimately like to hear the final dimensions of your cutouts and recesses for the Founteks.

(Slow) Progess update Imperial Russian Stout

Progress is slow during this season. Installed the threaded inserts for the drivers. Will be using black 8-32 button end screws for mounting. The port mountings ready on the rear baffles. Also drilled for binding posts. Will be able to bi-amp.

Those are going to turn out nice. I love the threaded inserts you used, that's all I ever use now. Had a T-nut come loose on me one too many times. I will never use T-nuts, hurricane nuts or anything like it ever again.

Several choices. I'm using 8-32 w/ black button head screws from Meniscus Audio. http://meniscusaudio.com/machine-screw-p-202.html.

You can also get inserts/screws separately from McMaster-Carr.

I like 8-32 for mounting drivers and 10-32 for mounting baffles.

Those threaded inserts look like a great alternative. Where do you get them, more info?

I'm using 1/4-20 threaded inserts and socket head cap screws on my RSS315HF rebuild. Will probably the smaller varieties when using smaller drivers. Biggest problem is getting the inserts to thread into the material straight and true ... otherwise your screws just bind up.

Yep. Didn't like the velocity I got from 3" at the tuning that Brewski liked.

I used a T-Handle Allen wrench to screw them in. Seems to have worked all right. I was careful about vertical, but haven't done a complete test (and probably won't) since there are 17 per side.
If I have real problems, I will just remove the inserts and bolt the drivers to the baffle. The rear will be removable.

Not a lot of progress this week. Chamfered the back side of the driver openings. Demonstrated another advantage of screw inserts: you can get a lot closer to the insert with the bit than when using T-nuts.. Opens up more area for breathing space.

I used a 45 degree chamfer with ~1/2" cutting length. Was able to get a nice cut and still have most of the bearing riding on the rebate edge.

This is a task for full goggles rather than safety glasses. You need to get fairly close to see where you're at. Extra lighting doesn't hurt either.

Further progress. Dry fit everything, happy with the fit. A bit too cold to glue, so will start the XO layout and assembly. Will go ahead and round the baffle edges. Fronts and backs will be removable, so only biscuited the top, bottom, braces, and mid enclosure.
May start the paint test as well. Test pieces can stay in a heated area.

And yes, those are OS MTMs in the pic of the cab rear.
