  • Dayton ND65 Full Range Pico Monitor?

Has anyone explored using the ND65 in a setup like Wolf's PC NS3 design? I'm trying to get as small as physics will allow and I think this might be a nice driver to push to the limit.

The 4 ohm has a higher Qms and Qts, and a lesser Le factor. You may get more treble extension with this one, and the box will be easier to achieve the Qtc of 1.1, even though the Qms is not between 7 and 10. Model a box for 1.1 Qtc, stuff it, and use a 500uF cap for it. To top it off- you get about 80dB @ 2.83VAC/1m.

I would be sure of T/S by measuring one, and then try it.
    Give it a whirl?

I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes. I wanted some sort of confirmation that this was worth a shot.

Would it be a 1,000 uF cap? I thought (but cannot verify) that 500uF assumed the driver was 8 ohm.

If you think that ND65 can hit 60 Hz, you're likely dreaming. It just won't really do that and do it well, so I left it at 500uF.

Ah. I was misunderstanding the application of the cap.

Modeled to Qtc of 1.1 in a box of about .75 liters. F3 or 100, F10 of 70. I'm going to give this a whirl and see how it sounds in this enclosure. Will keep this thread updated.

Did you ever finish this project? I too am thinking about building small enclosures for the nd65s. I'm curious how this turned out.

For ME, I'd like it in 0.06 cf (104 ci) with a 3/4"d vent, somewhere around 5" long. In a sim they clear 60Hz.

awesome, thanks Chris! I'll give that a shot. If i'm using the nd65-4 drivers, what would this need for a crossover...just a 1000 uf cap?

My recommendation is for the ND65-8, and in a vented box. The big cap (per Wolf's PC design?) is for a sealed alignment AFAIK.

lets say I already have two of the nd65-4s...would you recommend the same specs?

Due to their higher Q and Vas, I'd go larger, like 0.10cf (170 ci).
I'd make a 3/4"d vent that's 3" long. This tunes the box near 60Hz (the same as the 5" long vent in the smaller box). As a box gets bigger, you can use a shorter and shorter vent to get the same tuning.

                            Is that like 2.78 liters?;)

Yeah, "like" 2.78. I use 2.83 (but I don't really like using my liter ruler much).
