They have the 'wax-coils' from Jantzen now.

Oh yea, /another/ type of coil to choose from. If I keep seeing these soon I'll never build anything for inability to choose from crossover components :D

Seriously though, these seem a bit pricey. Anything online about performance advantages or such? The production idea does seem interesting.

Your link took me to the foils, which have been there forever. Not sure what the "wax coils" are.

Just look further down the list......

"the foil is precision-wound tightly and then impregnated with Jantzen's proprietary polymolecular paraffin wax."

scroll down people, or search for 'wax coil' (on the page or using the web search).

Actually, they're not very expensive for the 16 ga. Price goes up significantly with 14 and 12 ga.

I'm waiting for Wolf's Coil Test at the next InDIYana. We'll settle this like men...

                  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That's a GOOD one, Tater! ;)

(If I were to do one, I would do a higher DCR coil paired against a lower DCR with added resistor to match the other's DCR total. It's a hard one to prove, but I think it made a difference having the lower DCR coil over the higher without resistor. Otherwise- I see no reason other than looking at power handling and core-saturation that would be a difference.)

Mike- Since you don't know, I won't tell you. I don't think it has anything to do with me however....

I agree- the 16AWG values aren't too costly in reference to the regular foils.
