    all metal 3-way

    I would like your opinion on a midrange to mate with the Seas L18RNXP in a floor standing all metal 3-way. I have the woofers and so far I’ve been looking at the Fountek FR88EX and the Tang Band W4 1337SD. (Not a fan of the grey basket of the Tang Band W4 1337SD and a bit pricey) I haven't chosen a tweeter yet either.

    Suggestions?

    lol I was looking at those same exact drivers for my 3 ways but I think I am going to repurpose my zaph drivers.

      I've been working on an all-metal 3-way since fall - using the FR88EX for the mid. (The drivers are RS150-4, FR88EX, and NE19VTA). The Fountek is a nice little driver. They measured real close to published specs. Unfortunately, the price jumped quite a bit on them since last summer - $40 now, whereas I paid like $24 for them. For another $10 you could go with the FR89EX.

      One of mine arrived with a fine scratch right across the cone - no big deal, but definitely visible :( I decided just to live with it rather than return it to Madisound.

        What abiut a Fountek FW146?

                It's a bit big for my application. I'm thinking 3''-4'' for the mid and a 3/4'' tweeter.

                  Absolutely! A finger touch will dent and/or oxidize too, so they are also very fragile.

                  What would suggest that they are not metal?

                    That means I can't own one:( I would have to touch the cone to see how fragile it is. Darn curiosity.

                        DA115 is a sweet driver. I used it as a woofer in an MTM, but I have no doubt it would be a very nice midrange.

                          The TB 1337SD is very thin titanium and is a superb midrange driver, IMHO. Of course I'm biased, it's the driver Curt and I used in all the Statements speakers. Jed K. (Clearwave Audio) also has many designs available using this driver as a mid.

                          The bad part is, you need to be careful of the cone. It's easy to put a wrinkle in it if your fingers slip. Don't ask me how I know. :rolleyes:

                            100% titanium, 200% pure bliss. I love that driver.
