I would be very curious to see how close your measurements come to your sims.

Feels good to get crackin', don't it?
It does! They're probably waaayyyy off, becuase there's no information whatsoever about this tweeter anymore except what I can remember off the top of my head. So I looked up Tymphany/Vifa tweeters and found one that both looked similar, was 4ohm, and had the closest Fs.

I guess they are better, I don't have any issues with them, except the rubber covers on the clips make it difficult to clip them sometimes, but have probably saved my speaker and amp on more than one occasion, haha.

Ok so I finally pulled the trigger on some measurement gear!

      Here's what I got:

      20ft Blue (brand) Mic Cable
Sturdy Speaker Stands (becuase the wood one I made is scary )
      Blue Icicle
Tripod Mic Boom Stand + Mic Clip

      and....

      Cross Spectrum Basic Dayton Mic

      and.... (drumroll please)

The last Dayton WT3 on ebay

That's quite the transfer function on that woofer! peerless drivers are generally quite smooth response, so I am a bit confused by that. I'm sure the tweeter response could be a lot smoother as well, the transfer function is designed for the rising high frequency response. If nothing else, a series inductor can help that out.

Well that's full bsc treatment since it's going to be away from the walls. And there's about a 6-8dB breakup spike, too, but that was dealt with by the nice 4th order slope.

I was working on a really good one last night where I got the woofer completely flat to 2600Hz, I mean like Scanspeak flat, haha. and coincidentally, the tweeter from 8kHz up crazy flat and 20dB down at Fs, but a huge dip in between the two.

Then my computer restarted after I went to bed, and I forgot to save it.

I really should just wait for my new equipment to come in and quit wasting my time with a half-assed sim.

Not a waste of time, pure sims are of limited practical use its true, but they allow you to experiment with a ton of alignments without spending a dime. When you are staring at your measured responses, a peak will show up and you will be very confident that you know a topology to tame it.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Well yes that's true, but I'm using the frd and zma from a similar tweeter, not THE tweeter, becuase the only information that exists for my tweeter is what I can remember, PE even closed the page for the driver. So yes, my sims are pretty much useless, but a sim with real measurements from, say Zaph's site, are good.

                    Re: Deadhorse Build Thread

Alright, I got my speaker stands (they need larger bases/platforms - MDF to the rescue), mic boom stand, and WT3 in so far.

I tested the tweeter's impedance and it is 4 ohm nominal, but it goes as low as 3.1R and there's 2 spikes in the impedance, let me post a pic:

I added it into PCD with the crossover I'm currently using - the FRD file is still not the actual tweeter's response, just a Vifa that looked similar, but the 5dB "BBC dip" changed to maybe a 2-3dB dip.

I'm currently testing all the crossover parts and entering the actual meeasurements I'm getting from the WT3, I'll post a screenshot of the outcome.

Yep, go buy (3) 3/4" dowels, grab 2 or 3 scraps of MDF and stack them, drill 3/4" holes in them and glue the dowels into the holes. I had to clamp one of the dowels at a right angle.

Took about 30minutes including glue drying time :D

This is what I'm listening to and it sounds awesome! All that's missing is actual in-box frequency measurements from both drivers.

                              Measurements! Real ones!

I did this really quick, I'm driving VIPs around tomorrow, so I have to go to bed soon, but here's what I got, not too shabby, that dip gets bigger with the tweeter's polarity reversed.
