Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Re: CBT36 Line Array has arrived!

I'll probably set up my CBT36 with either Behringer DCX2496 or Lynx soundcard and using a PC software for crossover in the beginning.

My plan was to use a product called GroundSound DCN28, but I've decided not to after comparing it to my Lynx soundcard and Buffalo II DAC.

A product I've great hopes for is the coming DLCP from Hypex. If they can make this as good as their amps (which are amazing), it should be a winner. The price that has been mentioned is around 900 Euro. That's only for the board. One has to put it in a chassis oneself.

It's not clear when it will be ready for sale, but we are probably not talking more then weeks or a few months at max.
This could be a nice crossover with top notch preamp and DAC and still alot cheaper then DEQX.

        Bjorn,
I was feeling lonely thinking I was about the only person who bought the CBT36. Welcome. Hope you prepared your wife for what these speakers look like and how far they stick out from the wall. John

Re: CBT36 Line Array has arrived!

Here are some pictures of my CBT36 project.

If anyone has questions, yes, I built up the front baffle on a massage table. Yes, that is my wife's jewelry/art studio complete with rolling mill, metal shear, oxy-propylene torches, etc., etc.

I have ordered class D amp modules and power supply and a salvage rack mounted case to put them in. In the meantime, I am using an old Yamaha HTR-5990 which does not really support sound processors in a bi-amp mode. I intend to keep the AV receiver as front end (DSP capabilities, etc.) and take the pre-outs through DEQ2496 (room correction) and DCX2496 (electronic crossover) to an individual 2ch amp for FL, C, and FR (6ch total). I am hoping that Keele et al will make a compatible center speaker. The sub is an old 15" Dalhquist with a Parts Express plate amp. The surrounds are Polk, and the backs are a no name soundbar.

You can see by the uploaded pictures that the CBT36's are larger than the Infinity Prelude Compositions (PF-R's) that they are replacing. If one is kind, the CBT36's have "architectural interest" which really attracts the attention of visitors, even before they hear the speakers. Their looks are growing on me.

First listening impressions, even in this suboptimal set up, are extremely favorable. I am hearing things off of well listened to CD's I never heard before. Wife, whose hearing is better than mine, confirms. The sound is good, almost no matter where I put the speakers in the room. The sweet spot(s) have been replaced with one big room sweet spot. The sound seems to be encompassing even in a 2ch mode without a center channel. Voices are significantly better off of cable tv than they were before. In short, I am extremely pleased. This weekend, I will re-hook up the surround speakers and see what it all sounds like with no back speaker. Can't wait to build my amp for the front wall speakers. This could get exciting!

Will upload remainder of files (limited to 5 per response)

                  Very nice!

I believe there will be a matching center at some point.

Yes, there are plans in the works for a center channel.

Where does one buy replacement tweeters? I assume they don't come with a lifetime warranty? You never know how long a certain product is going to be available, I would definitely buy some replacement drivers along with the kit rather than waiting until one failed then finding out it's too late.

Modules will be available from Parts Express and Audio Artistry. Anyone looking to hear the CBT-36 will be able to do so in June at the Newport Beach show.

                          Rick,
Do you know of any plans for the CBT36 at RMAF this year. Pretty sure that's on my to do list after this deployment wraps up.
                          Thanks,
                          Aaron

Probably not this year since they will be in California next month and next January at the CES.

The best center would obviously be to buy another single CBT36 and place it behind an acoustic transparent screen.

I'm getting closer! Should be ready in a few days.

Those are gona look beyond amazing.

In the pics, those baffles look to be straight. Did you add a flexing agent to the paint and clear coat for when they are attached to the front of the cabinet? I'd be paranoid that when I went to attach them, the paint would start to crack as the baffle curved.
