They really do, simply because they have a fairly large footprint. However, the RMAF room was pretty small, and they still sounded very good in there.

Pete - sorry I missed meeting you at the RMAF. I may have been away when you visited our room. I set up the DEQX for the system and appreciate your kind comments.

I would disagree that the CBT-36 needs a large room to perform well. You can actually listen to them very close up and still have very good imaging. But I do agree a larger room is best for showing the true capability of the system due to the wide dispersion and high output.

Any word on if those raw tweeter assemblies will be available seperately? I'm sure they won't be budget priced but there aren't many options for a low compromise tweeter selection for line arrays. I've been looking for a few years mostly for various versions of the Peerless/Vifa/Tymphany BC25SCxx-0x or OC25SC75/65 (some of them buyouts) but I couldn't ever find a good deal even when discounted to 100 pieces. Now even the 3/4" Dayton tweeters aren't an option due to the increase in price from Neo speculation.

I already have 100 of the fairly decent Sammi 3-1/2 full rangers. I'd like to at least start on a design using dual mid lines in an OB format. Rick Craig recently posted an OB array on his forum that got me itching to do this again.

I'm hoping the CBT36 tweeters don't use neo but I'm guessing they do. Anyone know any different?

No. It does mean, however, at least an additional $160 or so, shipped.

While the kit cost seems high, there are other DIY offerings that cost significantly more.

Also, one has to pay to pioneer new innovations. Dr. Keele shouldn't be working for free!

Consider also the cost of the raw drivers. The mids alone are $650 for 36. I assume that the tweeters are similar. And then there's wood, too. And shipping is going to be a non-trivial cost, with all of those parts and heavy pieces of wood.

So as a value proposition, it seems reasonable.

I'd love to hear the CBT36 because of the clever thinking behind the concept. I understand that they aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea though.

AHH These things look incredible. I love the theory behind it, that's some cutting edge tech. I wonder if you could do something similar with some cheap buyout drivers like 8 of those Bazooka 5" for $4 each per tower (not sure about the tweets tho). I'm sure it wouldn't really compare though, since these drivers were designed for these speakers.

So I noticed there's no crossovers, just shading resistors. I guess your amp needs to have crossovers, or have a separate one? I think it would be great if someone designed an amp for these speakers. One day there should be a kit with a DIY sub and amp too for like $4k that would be great.

I was also thinking, if you were to make your own amp and used NL4s, couldn't you use two pins for HF & 2 for LF circuits? They are all independent wires right? You could maybe get a few of those Sure amp boards (or another clean, efficient amp), put together some passive XOs and add volume control. I think that'd be a good way to get past a horribly messy and complicated setup. Total output of 1250W RMS through 3.5" & .75" drivers is unheard of right?? haha oooh if only I had the monies...

I got to hear them at RMAF. The room sounded pretty darn nice. The subs were integrated very well, and overall presentation was smooth. With such a small room, and such large speakers, standing out into the space, the result was pretty remarkable.

I wish I could hear them in a more normal environment for such behemoths, like MY living room. I'm sure I would have liked a lot more listening time on them, but it was the last day, and we had so much more to see and hear. They were one of my favorite rooms at the show last October.

I heard them two years ago when DK did a presentation at MWAF. Very impressive even with the sub off. Seemed any where you stood in the room it sounded as if you were in a "sweet spot". Even right up on them they were the same level as if you were 5 feet away, the "power shading" deal works!

Your variation of that design that you brought down here to houston was certainly impressive. It was on a smaller scale if I remember correctly, but it definetly did not sound scaled down.
