  • AVG Free antivirus and anti-spyware

My norton antivirus was up. And, didnt feel like paying the $50 dollar renewly fee. My friend John, told me about avg. Its free and its works alot better then norton. I deleted norton and download avg, and it was actually just like norton and malware combined.

Just wanted to share my money saving solution to people that are tired of spending too much on something that should be free and more user friendly.

Download free antivirus and malware protection. Tune up your PC, Mac, & Android. Encrypt your connection and browse anonymously with a VPN.

Bart, if you pay for AVG "Tune-UP 2013" you can clean-out viruses and malware it would typically cost $125-$150 to remove and if you can't, AVG's tech's will remove them FREE. I got a "worm" and a "Trojan Horse" on this laptop, and AVG removed them FREE and my computer shop (good one too) it would have been cheaper to get a new laptop than them to "flush it" as it's a Dell (cheap to buy, pricey to service, because they take the tech's lots of "bench time".) I've been using various forms of AVG since 2003 and I like them. They're "lean & clean" on my machines.

Re: AVG Free antivirus and anti-spyware

I used to use AVG about 7 years ago but their code became woefully inefficient that I had to give them the axe.

I use Avira Free Edition these days and supplement with the occasional AdAware and SpyBot sweep. Occasionally there's a slight popunder from Avira suggesting that I buy the premiun edition but it's wholly inoffensive. I teuly consider it by far the more resource efficient option, and i've not once in the last ~5-6 years using this collection of software, experienced a need to do anything drastic IE format or delete rootkits. I even replaced AVG at my manager's work computer with Avira for him.

I feel ;;most;; secure however when simply using my linux computer. Got its drawbacks (IE no PCD =( ) but using uncommon OS has a sense of calm that all the anti virus software out there has never given me.

Yeah I got two files that came up. And Trogan horse was one of them. Havent had a chance to look into it. But thanks for your advice I would like this desktop I got, which is nice. To last for alonger period of time.

Lately its been going to freeze.com i dont know why its doing this. But I think avg would fix it up good.

        Thanks

Freeze.com is an adware bot. It came on this little refurbished Dell I'm on. Pretty soon all I was was a bot. It would take 15-20 min. for Win XP to boot, and I couldn't do anything, but wait. AVG tech's took about 3 hours to clean all the junk out while I watched and actually learned (quite a lot from him). Now I know where to look for junk and garbage extentions. It's like learning which fuses to check on your EFI engine before calling AAA.

Re: AVG Free antivirus and anti-spyware

I will put my vote in for AVAST (free edition), just in case you decide that AVG isn't up to snuff. I used to use AVG, but switched around 6 years ago and have been virus free on every single PC in my house and also with the various PC's of my extended family. Unfortunately because I know a smidge about PC's, I inherited the IT Tech position many years ago with my family :(

Anyway....I'm talking about approximately 20 desktops, laptops and netbooks...all running mostly XP. Seems like poor XP and Vista OS users are infiltrated the most, so I think that speaks volumes about AVAST.

Just FYI- with AVAST, all you need to do is renew your free license once per year on your anniversary date. All that involves is verifying an email address.

I used AVG free up until about a year ago, but after an update on my stepdaughters netbook, it almost ground to a halt (someone else complained of the same problem).

I now use Microsoft security essentials. It's free and hasn't caused my any problems.

I've used AVG free for years now with no issues. I have it on my laptop, PC, and my phone. Have them all set to update and scan daily. Not saying its the best out there, but so far its worked great for me. One of my buddies who is a hard core I.T. guy with a computer science masters from UMR (or whatever its called these days) is the one who recommended it to me. He says it the best bang for your zero bucks.

Gents, check out 'Microsoft Security Essentials.'

Microsoft Security Essentials reached end of service on January 14, 2020 and is no longer available as a download.

Still happy with free AVG on a couple of new windows 7 machines. It was very slow on my old XP machine.

                          +1 for Microsoft Security Essentials.
I installed this freeware on the recommendation of my computer savvy friend. I had McAfee that came with my subscription of SBC global internet service. The McAfee slowed down my computer significantly when it was scanning, not so with Microsoft freeware.

I have Avast on 4 machines at home and I have MS Security Suite on several multi user machines at work. Never had any issues.
