Since the last xo change they are nice. Fourplay is stunning. I dont know how they measure but they sure sound good. (going out on a limb here). Pretty bad weather for pics. My wife waited on Capts. Wild Bill and Sig Hansen of "Deadliest Catch" today--they are here for our exceptional bill and tuna fishing tomorrow. They did not order snow crab legs but one in their party had crab cakes.
    EDIT: Fourplay sub?

Ah, the rules are killing me. I just want to spill the beans. Compare pictures and graphs. Ugh. When is the competition again :D
I, for one, like vanilla. It's the ones who aren't talking that I am worried about... They are too busy making Coconut creme, walnut, cherry, chocolate infused, marshmello dream machines!!!! Wrapping mine up and going to have one shipped to Roman by week's end.

Has anyone seen or heard from Jeff_free69? He is suppose to give a hand with the music server and I have not been able to get in touch with him. Please let me know if you have another way of getting in touch with him.

Fourplay: Bob James-Keyboards, Lee Ritenour-Guitars, Nathan East-Bass, Harvey Mason-Drums. I do sometimes listen to Boston but not much anymore.

              Here I am !
(Sorry, I had to drop off the radar recently due to some serious family responsibilities, but things should be clearing up for me now)

Regarding the Test CD - I didn't get any specific feedback the first time around, so I started putting together a bunch of new candidates and whitling them down. Now that we're closer to "ID-Day", we can try again.

2 things we can do -
              a) For judges only (not contestants), I can forward what I have so far for comment.
              b) Set up an FTP site where you can upload candidate .wav files

I think it'll be great to have it completed ahead of time, so you'll all have the opportunity to become familiar with it before you get there. Since all the speaker entries must be shipped by Sept 1, I'd like to have the CD file available right after that.

I was hoping to set up the FTP site so the designers can upload their top 3 picks to go on the CD. The YOU pick the segments and mix er-up. Not everyone's will make it, heck someone my have none make it, but ultimately you are the deciding factor from the designers picks. I asked they give a two min segment from each song. So they will upload the song, then in the title put (2:00-4:00).. That way you know the key segment of the song to sample. 5 tracks will make it on in key genre's for a total demo length of 10-12min/speaker. Are you on the e-mail list? If not PM me your e-mail. I thought you were on there... I may have missed ya.

These are peach or something tropical.. I'm liking them a lot, just doing a lot of listening deciding if I wanna make one last slight xo change. I'll have them sent in probably on the 20th. Do we really need an FTP site? Can't we just email the tracks? When's the deadline for that?? I have a couple real good tracks in mind, but they may fall under a couple categories at once.

                      OOOhhhh Tropical!

FTP is better for Jeff. He is the music man. It is super easy, just rip them as .wav files an put the 2 min segment in the details. I was hoping everyone entering would subit 3 tracks each so he has a sizable pool to draw from.

OK - I set up the FTP site
(a wave file for a typical song is about 40 MB, so email won't pass that)

I will send out the credentials for people to upload as soon as I get the email list from Mike.

Everyone coming to the event is welcome to post something. Even if its not used it will give an idea of what you actually listen to.

The site will be open for 2 weeks. I still plan to assemble the final mix early and distribute ahead of time.

What's everyone's impressions of the 830656? I was looking to use it for some low cost designs, but another member seemed to loathe it.

It's vanilla. In the $15-30 price range there are other drivers that can be a bit more application specific, but it is nothing spectacular in its own right. Typical of Vifa/peerless since the takeover the MFG's specs differed (at least on mine) quite a bit so make sure you measure them. It is not a waste of money since it is easy to make sound good, but not a value eaither IMHO.

That said: It is stupid easy to work with and has no real sin to offer if you mind your design manners. I would be tempeted to use an MCM Cast frame alum. cone over this for about the same $$$, also the TB W5 is a strong contender.

In the end, pairing it with a 2nd teir tweeter (Vifa BC, Dayton Silkie, Hivi) will get you a good jack of all trades in a reasonable box that I do not think you could beat at 5x the cost retail.

I think a little more highly of it than that. To me it's fantastic, but looks ugly. Has an enourmos bandwidth while staying somewhat efficient. Very user friendly. Simple xo saves $ on parts. Blends well with tweeters since its small.

This is my third design with it. All have been very different designs. Each one has really impressed me. Perhaps others have had experience with better drivers?

"Better" Is always a funny word. Not a fan fav for me, but it is still better than a few choice ones I have heard at 2x its cost.
