We had all last weekend with our design up and running, pushed hard Fri. night. We have a few issues but are happy with the progress at this point. We had a dud a couple weeks past that we discarded out of hand. Been interesting so far and I am learning a bunch.
Ryan Bouma and I are doin' pretty good. Boxes in progress and xo parts on the way! I had a couple issues too, but they are or will be taken care of
Goal is to have them completely finished by the end of the month, but I might go a little over deadline if I run into something or simply don't have the time.
Do I remember hearing something about a give one/take one table??
Awesome, glad everyone's doing so well! It is a challenge. I redesigned twice, but I have a finished product now I am happy with so we shall see!
There will be a swap table there. Remeber: Roman must have all entry's by 9/1/2012 so good measurements can be taken!
Also, we have decided to separate the "looks/touchy/feely" portion from the sound demo'. Basically after all the sound demo's are over and judging sheets are collected for sound, we will pass out new sheets for the visual portion then have everyone judge the speakers separately. This is the best way we can keep it as blind as possible during the sonic portion.

Hopefully next week....still waiting on some parts I ordered 5/26 that have been on backorder!!!
Still not sure if it will come in under $200 though (within a few dollars right now)? I am determined to make this design work though as it is something I have had rattling around in my head since the mid 80's.
Since we have a more manageable number of speakers to audition (~10?), it should take a lot less time than your typical DIY.
So how about a final / shootout round for the top 2 or 3 contenders ?
Since it is a real contest a second listen would be helpful to evaluating subtleties and making comparisons.
Jeff,
That is a great idea. Logistically though, it is a nighmare keeping it all blind. I am thinking the better road is to have five, 2 min. long demo tracks instead of 1min long that way they all get a fair shake and a good 10min total listen. We need time to do the visual part, as well as tally the points, reveal the designers, reveal the winners, and give each designer a couple of mins to talk about their design.
I was going to ask you to post details about how to upload music aug 1st-aug 15th so entrants can get you music. I like the DIYNY format, and the ultimate decision is yous since you are not entering a design and will be doing the mixing, there will be "no bias" from any contenders.
I like the format where in the upload title there needs to be the 2min. designated (ex 3:12-5:12) artist, album.

HEY! what hole have you been hiding in? I have been trying to get in touch with you :p
Is everyone ready? Anyone think they have a winner on their hands...?
Got a bunch done on the cosmetic side this weekend, letting the first couple coats of finish firm up then final voicing. We didn't discover any new ways to impart motion to an air mass, but I think we'll be OK.
