  • Inexpensive Speaker Tower Help

I want to build a small dorm room speaker tower all powered by the Dayton Audio MCA2550E 2.1 Channel Class D Amplifier. I was just going to build it with a pair of the Dayton Audio B652 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers mounted in it. I was going to use the sub output on the amp to power a Goldwood GW-8024 8" Butyl Surround Woofer at the bottom of the tower in a sealed box. Will all of these together make a a tower that can produce a decent amount of sound at higher levels? Or will that amp have trouble pushing those speakers or sub when turned up? Also what would be a good size box for the woofer?

Yeah but.... Stereo was a great leap forward in sound reproduction. Don't turn your back on it.

I built a couple of 2.1 systems with the earlier model 2.1 plate amp. It should be adequate for a dorm room.

Should i be able to play it without too much distortion at higher levels?

No. It's not really a high power amp, and it has so-so distortion specs. Also hums a bit when you really turn it up.

I mean, it's fine for a 2.1 computer system, but it won't fuel a dorm room party.

Do you have any suggestions for an inexpensive amp to power a small tower set up? having a small woofer to help the low end would be nice too. thank you for the help.

Buy an old stereo receiver on craigslist. Make sure it works. Take your own speakers and wire if needed. Google the model if you don't know what it is. Add a powered sub.
